« on: October 24, 2009, 07:47 AM »

Hi again,

I am in the process of replacing my lapy but until then I have to continue using my existing one,the problem is that is seems to be over-heating. I have been told to get a cooler plate or board, I am not sure what it is. Does anyone know, do they work and are they expensive.

Thanks in advance for your help

Thot u was in d uk? Wat eva hapened 2 your pc, d fan aint workin no more? And is it AMD based?

Am just surprised! Shld b autumn, all dt cold aint doin d job. Lol.

Dnt mind me jare. Hmm dose things r just fans set on like a plate or platform or wateva. U place your lapie on em n  plug. It starts blowing air.

4 me unless your lapie gat vents under it i fail 2 see d point but folks use it so i guess it maybe works.

I bought 1 4 sum1 4 7k naira lyk a yr ago. Dunno d cost naw.

But really seeing a techie n changing d fan cant be more expensive though iya charlie techs are pricey.

IN SHORT STOP BEING SO CHEAP N BUY A NEW ONE. And send dis old 1 to me. Lol.

Oh i 4got, u havnt told us d make n model, n specs, n hw much u bought it, n frm whom, who likes it, do u like it, its name, os bla bla bla. Lol. Am cwazy. Too much sugar, or rather too little. Wateva!!

Huh Huh Huh Huh Tongue Tongue Tongue

4llerbuntu,

Thanks 4 getting back 2 me, sadly I think I am more confused than before, anyway let me explain

TOSHIBA is the make, it's just over a year old, AMD, it does have vents underneath and I use it to death, it is always on so this may be why I am having this problem

I am a pc idiot so do not really know how to explain the other questions you asked, but a big thanks for trying to help.

Madam madlady (jeez galfrnd change dt user name!) Imagine! Madame mad, miss mad, mrs madlady, madlady luv, hell no!!!

Half of wat i said was just messing around. N i was making a joke, i dnt need your specs. U shld undastand dt part anyway.

Anyway quite clearly your fan is not workin anymore. U can check by lookin around n under your lapie 4 a small vent. Hot air shld be blowing out of it. If not its not working.

Solution, get a tech 2 change it or buy a new lapie.

Now your learning. Anyway d causes
1. it is an amd based processor, those have heat issues so next time read d pc specs, ask 4 an intel processor pc.
2. Long periods on. Now ITS a LAPTOP n hmmn,  But more importantly wen your not using it bt u dnt wanna shut down, standby is a beta option. Also hibernate bt dt may give u issues if used all d time. Difference is standby consumes more pwr if on battery.
3. More importantly, u shldnt place your lapie on flat surfaces dt wont allow air under n around it. Esp on beds n rugs. Am talking frm practical exp. They heat up faster. Most laptops come wit little stands. Look around urs, lil stuff u can move so d lapie sorta has a stand. If it doesnt, do wat i do, get something little to prop up a side of d lapie, usually d back is more comfortable from d usage view, just 2 ensure air is blowing d thing allover!

Check hardware stores 4 d price of d fan thingy.
Dnt wori it'l soon be winter, then u'l b using it 2 warm ya hands!
Lol am just kiddin dnt mind me.

POSAKOSA1  Shocked

Well this seems to be quite hot after sometime, and the insurance company cannot be bothered to send anyone out, it's cheaper 4 them to just send me a new one,
so who am I to stop them. Anyway the upshot is that I will have 2 so I will pass this on if I can get a cooler thing.

Since it has vents under, d fan thingy may be a gud choice. Just dunno if d price will b worth it

4llerbuntu,

Love my user name, I think I will keep it.

That was some great advice, and I do recall the guy in pc world did say something like that to me, so I shall study your advice closely, that standby options sounds good for now.

Good. So now make sure its not flat so dt air can get in and around.

Come 2 tink of it, is it a sattelite? A pal of mine has dt n dis issue n wen he let it stand and get aired it was ok. Maybe u will get lucky lyk dt. D fan might be weak or dead. Wen u let it air lyk dt d temp will definitely drop.

Next time buy a hp pavilion wit intel processor.

your welcome. @ least u hav a new heater! Lol.
N pls dt name, mad-baby, mad-sweetie, mad-honey, puhleeease! U can do berra. Give me a name n i will come up wit a zany username 4 u

Can we know make and model please. some models such as Toshiba Sony has got some known issues of overheating and end blowing up

When it get too hot does it turn itself off to prevent further damages. if you can tell us make and model we might be able to check Temperatures

if not then best best you download free temperature software which will monitor all the components.  If the laptop is hot but not shutting down

then is not a hardware problem then. is it ? could be User error which means yourself the way you"re using it like on Bed or where there

is not enough ventilations. Good luck

Shocked Shocked

deji2009

That is a very  worrying prospect.  i so often leave it on whilst i am away, what if it caught on fire? that's one scary prospect. Anyway lets see if it is from  the bad lot.

TOSHIBA EQUIUM L350/L350D

I NEVER use my laptop in bed, I use it on my desk at both home and work. I hardly ever use the battery it is nearly always plugged into the mains.Yes, if turning itself off is going into the blue screen of death then it does this then starts back again on it's own.It is very cool at this time, 2 be honest i have never felt it this cool , i have been working on it since 5 am, I have the wedge under as advised by 4llerbunut@

Thank you  once again for helping with my comp problem.

I must applause 4llerbunut and other tecs for their efforts! however if your laptop is overheating and shutting down then when you have time

turn it off dont wait for anything keep pressing F2 until you come to Bios screen make sure charger plugged in to the laptop and into the mains

leave it on the Bios screen if the laptop shutdown in there then is a hardware problem. if doesnt shutdown for about 1hr then reinstalling the

whoele lots will be the best option for permanently cure this. Toshiba windows vista range has hidden recovery partition hence no need to buy  a

recovery disk. Good luck

Thanks for getting back tome

When I first purchased this laptop the guy in pc world said it would be advisable to get a cooler at a later date, anyway to cut a long story short, due to the fact the insurance company have agreed to replace for a much better model, I was advised by a Friend to get a cooler for this one and keep as a back-up or pass on to anyone who needs it.

Is this model part of the faulty batch that u know about?

Yes, had already decided to buy a cooler, am only using this improvised wedge until I get the time to go to pc world, but I did not think about the fact that I could also prolong the life of my new lapy. I shall look into what you say and seriously consider buying 2, if not too expensive or if on sale.

Thank you very much for your advice.
