Nigeria's First Ice Rink Installed In Silverbird Galleria

Hey guys if you're in Lagos you can go ice skating at Silverbird Galleria. And have snow flakes falling over you as you skate.

Bonus: Ice rink installed by nairaland member. Grin

oh come off it, get a grip geez. Its just for the experience, its called entertainment and the leisure industry all over the world have a variety of such experiences  for people to just enjoy. Its only an ice rink bllody hell what would you do it like Japan they installed an indoor imitation of the swiss ski slopes, snow and all included. Or like in Saudi Arabia where they have man made beaches etc?

Dont see what the hallabaloo is all about only an ice rink . Cant people enjoy themselves without such comments? I bet you have partaken in many western activities yourself , get off your moral high horse. For your info the so called west also borrow many African experinces for their people to enjoy for those who have not been to Africa.

Its just for fun , fun fun fun

There are many sustainable outdoor activities crying for development in Nigeria.  Only to adopt an "entertainment" in a country were we can't even generate enough electricity to sustain vital social infrastructures.
Even if they employ private energy sources to maintain the stupid rink, that's just a waste of resources to entertain the rich and pompous amidst all the poverty. Huh

You say this Blackmamba, but was this rink installed by the Nigerian Govt? i don't know, its why i ask. If it is privately owned, well you can't hold the owners morally responsible for those who would be unable to afford it. Becos to them its just a business enterprise nothing more, some smart person spotted an opportunity and took it. Dont you think? besides give it a few years and it would probably be left in decay.  Grin

I don't know why Nigerians are always skeptical about almost anything under the sun. From the thread, I understand this ice rink is from Silverbird, a private company. We all know what Silverbird stands for,  Entertainment, so this project is not from the govt. Developed economies of the world today are private sectpr driven. The world has become a global village now, and you don't have to travel to Europe, if you love skiing or an expatriate in Nigeria doesnt hv to travel home in winter to enjoy his hobby, this is what the world has turned to now. havnt you read about the 'ski dubai'Huh??started in December 2005 is the worlds third largest indoor ski slope, measuring 400 meters and using 6000 tons of snow. Ski Dubai resort is the first Dubai indoor ski slope to open.
Dubai is in the desert and this was constructed at the heart of the desert. Why do Europeans go to Asia and Africa to get sub saharan species of animls for their Zoos and Parks?HuhHuh
We the youth should think like new generation youth and not like youths from the stone age.

Blackmamba it doesn't have anything to do with colomentality, come to think of it, what in africa is not from the west? We didn't invent electricity nor television, so if we can enjoy entertainment via those media what's wrong with some skiing. Sounds like fun to me.

ICE RINK + TROPICS =  Cool

Good idea.  Soon tourists will flock to "Silverbird ice rink and ski resort" instead of the safari.  Or better still, we'll be able to send our first ice skaters to the next winter Olympics.  Grin

its not a real ice rink, just a flat surface built that you could use real ice skates on. Its was mounted there in December. Its somefink only young kids could appreciate.

so don't get your hopes up.

with our electricity issues a real ICE rink would be uneconomical and 'impossible'

Isn't that a bit over the top? A lot of households don't even have electrical power supply reliable enough to produce ice cubes in their fridge.

I can't believe I didn't see this thread earlier! I think the whole ice skating thing in silverbird is pure bullocks. It looks ridiculous.  Angry  And to think they stopped the salsa sessions that used to hold on the last sunday of every month just for this. Its all so annoying!  Angry

Ohh please stop talking nonsense and telling lies! An ice-skating rink in Naija where NEPA takes the light more often than it restores it! It would instantly melt away and people from outside will enter with their buckets in order to  fetch the freshly melted ice (water) for washing clothes outsides, we all know how Nigeria works, ooo!!!!

Tommorow you will tell us that A Dubai-like snowdome with slopes and skiing lift  has opened right in the middle of Lagos.

I WILL ONLY BELIEVE IT UNTIL I SEE IT! IF IT IS THE CASE WHERE ARE THE PHOTOSSSSS?HuhHuh?? Angry Angry Angry Huh Huh Huh Tongue Tongue

Brov, where is your faith in your country? Remember there are business minded entrepreneurs in Nigeria still

And for the record, we are not that uncivilized as to go and scoop ice block from a private property, I hope

Lagosians, please show pictures abeg
