Corps Member Arrested For Drug Trafficking!
« on: October 26, 2009, 06:42 AM »

Quote
A National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) member, Michael Otobor, is in the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for allegedly trying to traffic 84 wraps of cocaine worth over N2 million.

Mr. Otobor, a serving corp member with the Keffi local government area of Nassarawa state was last week arrested in a taxi on his way to the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos by operatives of the anti-narcotics agency based on a tip-off.

The 27 year old Mr. Otobor is from Ikpoba Okha local government area of Edo State, and is a graduate of Accountancy from the Federal Polytechnic Bida in Niger state.

He said he was paid the sum of N300, 000 as initial payment to traffic the cocaine weighing 1.150kg to Spain in Europe. “I was lured into this business by some of my friends,” Mr. Otobor said, in tears. “Initially, I did not want to do it because I know the consequence of trafficking in hard drugs. My friends kept telling me that they know the officials at the airport and I will not be caught but I still refused. Now look at me, I don’t know how I got myself into this mess.”

Mr. Otobor said he intended to use the money from the cocaine peddling deal to start a farm in Kwara state. “Like I told you, I did not want to go into this drug peddling deal,” he said. “But my sponsors checked me into three exquisite hotels in six days. I was given a treat, but I did not know that they were manipulating me. They gave me N300, 000 and promised to give me more money if I succeeded in trafficking the drugs. I thought of what to do with the money and then I decided that I have been thinking of starting a mechanised farm in Kwara state where I can plant, corn, melon and cassava. I regret yielding to these people.”

The Lagos state commander of the NDLEA, Wesley Midala, however revealed that Mr. Otobor could have died considering the large quantity of the cocaine he had swallowed. “Mr. Otobor vomited seven wraps and excreted seventy seven wraps of cocaine weighing 1.150kilogrammes. He is lucky to be alive as this hard drug would have destroyed his intestine and he would have died in the process. We are still interrogating him and as soon as we are through with our investigation, he will be charged to court. I will advice youth to be patient in life. They should not seek illegal means to actualize their dreams as the law is no respecter of persons or status.” Mr. Midala said.

Cassava farm ko ! Who is fooling who? I'm pissed off and angry.  Angry Assuming he was not bursted, he will live large. Probably he stepped on toes, did not settle appropriate quarters in the know, Olokpa sef should interogate the one who tipped them off with the info rather than collecting their share of the pay with false promises of helping out. May be with the right amount his KINGPIN might release him. God help Naija

The drug smugglin industry is similar to a mafia cartel, there are families, cops on the payroll, soldiers, capos etc. These illegal outfits thrive best in countries whose governments are power-drunk and people friendless. The bosses are themselves part of the repulsive governments and have stakes in the economy. Of course, since they really are not in the government to salve the people's pains the economy becomes an awful mess. Michael was an unfortunate soldier tryin to make his bones, he is a victim of a hideous cycle, one that makes you run to the oppressor for succor. Unfortunately, like every other mafia, there are rivals and one other rival gang set him up. To hell with the farm story, he was simply survivin in a country that gives you limited opportunities at decent livelihood. It is pathetic, but until the revolution is wrought another michael would be caught again and again

another lesson to be learnt from consequences of drug trafficking. the chap should thank God that he was caught here rather than over there as he probably wud have been hung or served a very harsh prison sentence.

I dont blame the young man ; knowing fully well what awaits every graduate of this country he decided to equip himself 4 life after youthservice.

I’m sorry to disagree with you on this point.
The current high-rate of unemployment in the country should not get anyone on such a path.
I really feel sorry for the young man and his family that he disgraced. I pray God’s intervention over the judgment the act has attracted to him.
The Bible, however, warns against this: ’,  he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent’ (proverbs 28:20). People who cheat others and steal to be rich are unwittingly destroying their own lives. You can’t keep stealing and defrauding others or the government and expect to have permanent success in life; it’s not possible. People with a greedy mentality don’t last on the road of success. They’re cut short because God hates greed.
There‘re people who for instance would collect from others a hundred percent down-payment for goods or services they never planned to deliver. Why do we find people with such attitude in our nation today? It is because many have become too greedy of gain. Greed is a kind of taskmaster that holds people captive. It rules them and dictates to them what to do. It gives them visions to pursue and will not let them act right. This was the reason Judas betrayed Jesus and was destroyed. Greed is a wicked taskmaster. Only the Word of God sets a man free from greed.
People who get rich by fraudulent and inordinate means are merely functioning within certain laws of spiritual economics. As long as they function in those laws, they’ll get their deserved result. I urge you today to distance yourself from greed. Let no one entice you to do what’s wrong; don’t partner with anyone to defraud the nation. The bible says ’if sinners entice thee, consent thou not’ (Proverbs 1:10). Don’t be carried away or lured into evil because of the inordinate desire for gain. Such wealth will develop wings and fly away.
In your dealings, refuse to cheat or take advantage of anybody. Don’t go into a trade, business, vocation or career merely on the basis of money; rather let it be because of the importance of the job, and how you want to impact and improve your world through what you do. Be wise today; refuse to be greedy.
[Hebrews13:5, Proverbs 15:27 & Proverbs 1:16-19]

End of the day, he has himself to blame. He was not forced to deal on drugs at gun point. He had a choice at the time, and he made one.
