Bode George jailed (As reported on The Nation website) Former Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Chairman Bode George was today sentenced to 30months imprisonment for contracts' inflation during his tenure.
Justice Olubunmi Oyewole of the Ikeja high Court convicted him and five others for the offence.
They were convicted for inflating contracts to the tune of 100 billion.
Others are former NPA Chief Executive Aminu Dabo, Captain O. Adeboye, Abdullahi Tafida Zanna Mairaribe and Sule Aliyu.
After they were convicted, their supporters went wild on the court premises.
Their loyalists protested their conviction, alleging that it was instigated.
George was probed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) under the Obasanjo administration.
The then Nuhu Ribadu led EFCC indicted George in its report that was submitted to the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
FEC the raised another inter-ministerial panel to investigate the matter.
The panel came up with a report that the NPA board and not George should be held liable for any misdemeanour
