A middle- aged woman, Aisha Muhammed, has told an Area Court that she never for once loved her husband.
The woman stated this during a divorce suit she instituted against her husband, Bature Umaru.
While testifying that love does not exist in her marriage, Aisha said she only obeyed her parent’s wish to marry her husband and never loved him.
“Although we are married, the circumstance now does not warrant us to stay together, hence I applied for divorce,” she said.
She further explained that since they got married years ago, she has never been pregnant and known peace.
“God does not want us together, hence I have never conceived for him,” Aisha said.
Responding, Bature, through his counsel, Muhammed Galadima, told the court that Aisha was not forced by her parents, adding that there was a mutual agreement between them.
The counsel also told the court that there were witnesses to the marriage and pleaded with the court to give them time to present witnesses in court.
In his ruling Judge Hamza Yahaya Gashua adjourned the case to October 29 2009 to hear the witnesses’ testimonies.
In another case, a man, Reuben Tsughun, appealed to the court to dissolve his marriage to Cecilia Tsughun because of his wife’s disobedient behaviour.
He told the court that on several occasions, his wife has threatened him violently and also denied him freedom of movement by locking him up in a room.
Reuben further stated that on many occasions, his wife has threatened to cause accidents by jumping onto the steering of his car, adding that she now keeps late night.
The man said the late nights kept by his wife is clear evidence of adultery that has forced him to abandon their matrimonial home for another place.
Reuben urged the court to let him have custody of their only child and promised to pay N50, 000 as cost for his action.
In her response, Mrs. Cecilia Tsughun denied the allegations stated by her husband and said the court lacks jurisdiction to grant the divorce as the marriage was contracted at the Abuja Municipal Area Council marriage registry.
She also told the court that her husband deserted their matrimonial home since December 2008 without any reason.
Having listened to both parties, Judge Hamza Yahaya Gashua adjourned the case to November 11 for ruling.
