Presidency shortlists 4 to replace NCC boss
Oluwaseun Ayantokun, Lagos
Wednesday, October 28, 2009
THE race towards getting a replacement for the current Executive Vice Chairman and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), of the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC), Mr. Ernest Ndukwe, has commenced, just as the information filtering from the presidency indicated that four persons had already been shortlisted.

Though, the list was yet to be officially announced, the Nigerian Tribune gathered that Ndukwe’s replacement may be produced from any of the three geopolitical zones in the North.

Among them is a professor that is knowledgeable about the communication industry from the North East.

Also, on the list that excluded names that were being thrown up in the country’s telecommunication sector was one of the sound minds currently serving as an executive director in the commission.

Meanwhile, stakeholders in the telecommunication sector have appealed to President Umaru Yar’Adua and others in the decision making with regard to the appointment of the successor of Mr. Ndukwe, to avoid politicising the matter.

Speaking to the Nigerian Tribune in his office, a player in the industry, who would not want his name mentioned, described the new appointment exercise as a litmus test for President Yar’Adua.

He said if political considerations prevailed in making the new appointment, the current development in the sector of the country’s economy may be derailed.

Is Sanusi performing? Maybe, you should define your meaning of performance.

@toba: You think Sanusi is performing right, for your information Sanusi's performance is just like a man digging a well. Only time will tell.

By all means, put a northerner there. It's only fair.
The position in the last 12 years has actually been occupied by two southerners, from the South East. Iromantu and Ndukwe.
No doubt Ernest needs to go. He has done well, but has run out of ideas since. Let's see what a new face will bring.

lets say the four shortlisted were deputy or executive directors under Ernest Ndu, is there really anything wrong if one of them replaces him?

NCC boss to be replaced from the north? funny title
you mean the announcement will be made in the northern part of the country?

Well this is Nigeria, when you see a Ibo man in a place of authority, all he does is to appoint his people, likewise other tribes in Nigeria.

Its a pity this is how we do things in this country without considering competence and other factors surrounding it.

Yaradua needs better advisers

Good people great Nation Bad leaders

God bless Nigeria.

Thank you I wonder why replacing a southerner with a northerner causes so much noise while replacing a northerner goes almost unnoticed. Pres Yar'adua should just give us capable hand. That position is not for politicians.

don't you fellas get it, this is the time for northerners to shine.

they have to put their people in every position of money and power.they have to acquire money to compensate during the obasanjo's era.definately yaradua go slow is going to appoint a northerner again

How many northerners have been replaced with southerners?. Why didn't Yaradua replace abdullahi who has a fraudulent certificate with a Yoruba, Bini,  igbo or ijaw man?

Dora Akunyili well done o
This is obviously a fallout of Dora 2.3Ghz frequency fight with Ndukwe, either she pressed for his removal or those northerners just saw a divided house of a brother and sister and decided to strike

You'd rather she doesn't do her job because her kinsman is at the helm of affairs there?. Is that how Nigeria will grow?

Thank you, Follow me ask them. Why can't people open their eyes.

Federal character means the idea of the best person for the job died a long time ago. Share the jobs out equally amongst the geopolitical zones.

There is no problem in any of the coming replacement whether from north or south. Only thing we should be worried about is how to make our Nigeria great.
