Do you believe in breastfeeding babies?. If so, how long do you think a baby should be breast fed?. Do you also believe alternative forms of feeding the baby with milk like the goat or cow milk are enough to substitute breastfeeding 100%? Ebonyi House seeks executive bill on exclusive breast-feedingFrom Leo Sobechi, Abakaliki TO encourage exclusive breast-feeding among mothers, the Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Mr. Augustine Nwankwagu, has urged the Ministry of Health to sponsor a bill that makes practice mandatory for nursing mothers. http://odili.net/news/source/2009/oct/28/18.htmlNwankwagu spoke at the Assembly complex when the Ebonyi State Committee on Breastfeeding/Infant and Young Child Feeding led by Mrs. Maria Orji, visited the legislature. Represented by the Deputy Speaker, Dorothy Ogonnaya Obasi, Nwankwagu said the legislature would pass the law with dispatch, noting that the measure would compliment the efforts of both the state government and wife of the governor, Mrs. Josephine Elechi, in reducing child and maternal mortality. Orji said the law was long overdue, since according to her, crches were at one point set up in ministries and headquarters of local councils to enhance breast-feeding by working mothers. She, therefore, charged healthcare service providers to sensitise the populace on the need for strict compliance to exclusive breast-feeding, adding that the preference to synthetic milk was still prevalent among the young mothers. In her remarks, the Coordinator of Exclusive Breastfeeding, Mrs. Maria Orji, said even though manufacturers of the non-natural milk brands had reduced, the confidence of mothers in breast milk through the efforts of the state government, had yielded fruits. Chairman of the House Committee on Health, Dr. Jap Okolo, said since human beings started shunning God's provisions, their wellbeing had nose-dived, pointing out that local delicacies are still rich natural ingredients

thats a very stupid statement, no offence. i had a neighbor once, and after her second pregnancy it was hard for her to produce milk. she wasnt producing enough. so she had to use alternative forms like baby formular. so how does that make her less of a woman cause she couldnt breast feed her child? her 3rd child went smoothly, it was only with the second one. but anyway, DUH!!!!! what kind of topic is this? we all know that its very important. the baby gets the most nutrition from this kind of milk than any other substitute or baby formula. very important for the developement of your child. sometimes on the news they would say breast feeding can have positive effects on your child in the future. its good and everyone knows that. thread should be closed sha. lol

Breast feeding is absolutely the best. even from the spiritual perspective, it is the best. in the holy quran, Allah admonishes women to breastfeed their babies for 24 months.
scientists have also recommended breast feeding on the following grounds: 1. it enhances the functioning of the brain 2. it promotes healthy growth 3. it aids all the sense organs of the system 4. it helps against breast cancer etc
i concour that breastfeeding is the best.

THE AMAKAs Watin i do you now? What makes my comment stupid? Only real women understand the importance of breastfeeding. The example you ended up giving is your so called neighbour whom her breast could not produce natural milk, how does that justify the other thousands of women who have the breast milk, but intentionally refuses to breastfeed their baby becoz of one stupid excuse or the other. Your example is jst an exceptional cases which rarely occur. So next time you digest people's comment first b4 addressing it as stupid.

Breast Feeding is very good and I am usually an advocate for it. How dare anyone pass a Bill on Breast feeding! Why don't they just put all women who have given birth in one huge prison has have wardens milk us like cows to ensure it is done! how stupid to think you can make a law to enforce something that is a learned skill. In the western world we actually have classes to teach new mothers how to breast feed. You may say its natural (so is sex but that does not make everyone an expert). Half of all the breast feeding practices I observed while living in Nigeria actually inhibits the flow of breast milk. Many women expect it to be easy and get frustrated when they find out how challenging it really is. We as new mums do not need the added stress of a stupid Bill.
Education and support groups is what is required not stupid Bills. Let Breast feeding classes be part of the Pre Natal & Post Natal care adults respond better to encouragement not orders, lets not forget these women has a right to decide what is good for there own child.
