Everyone saying Soul calibur is the best i have to disagreecompletely. I own Sf series, Tekken series, MK series and Soul calibur. I have to say Tekken 2, 3 and 5 so rock and the SF series reigns forever. Soul Calibur is good graphically, but otherwise is crap.Hhow can u like a game that a novice can win u by jus pressing the buttons stupidly. that can never happen in tekken or SF. Think about it.

If you think SC is a buttonmashing game, you don't know how to play SC. SC has by far more depth than Tekken. It is by the same team, for Gods' sake. They couldnt risk losing the die-hard tekken fanatics (like you people) so they rolled all the improvements that were supposed to go into tekken 4 into SC while regurgitating tekken3 as tekken tag tournament. If you diss SC you are indirectly dissing Tekken as well, DUH. Soulcalibur is Number 2 in the All time best chart on gamerankings.com which aggregates review scores from all over the industry! The next fighting game on that list is tekken 3 at number TEN http://www.gamerankings.com/itemrankings/simpleratings.asp?rankings=yDon't diss the SC. Tekken is a great game but SC is better. Learn to play it before you diss it, and increase your reaction time- Tekken has a way of making your reflexes slooooooooooooooow. I'm not a SC master, but I can never be beaten by a buttonmasher, and while I can find sneaky ways to kill tekken players that are better than me, I have never beaten a superior SC player. The skill progression is just superb. If buttonmashers are killing u, u are a masher yourself! That said, SC has the worst singleplayer component ever, so if u lack competition in ure area i don't blame u for hating on SC. I'm trying to sell my copy of SC sef, theres no-one left in my area to play against |

@ darkmanzero, tell them bruh , How can you people come hear to actually admit a button masher mopped the floor with your a*se! The answer is just plain simple, you aint no good bruh! I'm with darkmanzero when i say i've never been beaten by a button masher. Heck, i'd find it insulting to even fight a button masher 'because its no competition. I've still got my Soul Calibur 2 with me and the reason i havent gotten rid of it is 'because of sentimental reasons!
Yeah, and by the way! I'm looking forward to seeing Soul Calibur fans online next year. Its official, our favourite franchise is coming back and its going to be online. I love Tekken but not as good as SC and thats the bottom line.

The best fighting game of all time is MORTAL KOMBAT on SEGA MEGA DRIVE, that game ate my money like mad, We was buying analog controllers every two weeks, Buy the time you finished the combo for 10 fatalities, brutalities and other stuffs your pad is broken, That game rocks, Screw these new generation games.

lol. as d resident game freak (who doesnt play a lot of games @ this point in his life, ironically), i should say that as per def jam vendetta i cab say,

actually not quite. Ive played def jam icon on the 360 and for Gods sake, those are the best graphics ive seen on any fighting game, bar none! plus the rappers and the music its ALMOST there, but the gameplay is simplistic and not deep at all. My bro and I had laughs for a couple hours, and hen once we had seen all it had to offer it was just boring. Hope vendetta is better.

latency= u can't play from Nigeria AT ALL. I meant from obodo oyinbo where I suppose u are located. Dont even bother trying to play online from Nigeria.Even with a high bandwidth connection. Ourlatency is orrible

While soul calibur is good, Tekken Five Rocks!! The damage u can do with Bruce or Nina is incredible, how about Xiaoyu, and anybody good with Christine is unbeatable,
Dead or Alive 2 for Dreamcast is not bad either,

There you have it, Def Jam hasnt got depth. @ darkmanzero, you're right about the latency problem but i've witnessed a friend playing a game (can't remember the name but its motobike racing) using DoPC's minimal broadband connection. Prior to that, he was using mynetcom's minimal connection speed as well. Although, there were latency issues, they didnt bug the game to the extent of being unplayable.
@Josh4ever9, Xiaoyu is quick but her attacks lack power. You have to be able to string combos to cause massive damage. That said, my strategy is to chop 2 hits and counter the 3rd. By then, you're a dead man! The only thing i recognise Nina for is her chain grabs and i counter them without thinking. Although she's fast but i don't loose sleep over it. Bruce isnt as fast but his attacks pack a punch. Avoid them or counter. Oh, and by the way, when i say counter, it doesnt always mean (hold back & grab kind of counter), darkmanzero will know what i'm talking about.
You should try countering sword swipes, now thats a whole different ball game.

@ Lush, True Xiaoyu lacks power, but her speed more than makes up for it, if You've ver fought somebody that knows what he's doing with her, she's very difficult to beat, because before u can react, she's gone into another series of combos,
Please, Nina has some good chain grabs through, but her leg speed and strength is amazing, if she gets a few good leg combos on you, it's over,
I don't even mess with sword swipes man, I know they're dangerous, kind of why I like Soul calibur,
You play Dead or alive? The countering is annoying!

Whatever speed power or agility xiaoyu has, there's one very very weak point, SHE STAYS ON THE GROUND TOO MUCH!!! any character in Tekken V that stays too much on the ground gets plunged to pink mist by my BRIAN FURY. I don't even need to receieve the second combo from you before i counter act! and i finish up with a series of juggling combos that keep you in oblivion (ground and air). as far as i am concerned xiaoyu does'nt rank in Tekken V.
Nina? yeah i agree she has some deadly grabs and moves that keep you paralyzed, does anyone agree with me that the ladies in Tekken V are more dangerous than the guys?
Sword swipes? whats that? lush please throw more light.
Meanwhile, any multi-tasking Yoshimitsu experts in DA house?

Hmmm. Lush. I see you don't play many Xiaoyu players.
I definitely was expert level on tekken 3 with her, but recently, while brushing up on tekken 5 I realised the xiao-chick was borked so horribly (always a good sign that your character was overpowered before) that I'm not sure I can use her as well anymore.However rest assured everything you listed as a disadvantage for Xiao-chan is NOT. Xiaoyu is incredibly powerful.
As for Nina, funny yiu should mention her. She was my second choice on tekken2/3, first choice on tekken4. And guess what: I NEVER use her linking grabs. Ninas strategy does NOT lie there. I swear when Nina kills you you will swear the pad was malfunctioning- her strength is to eat up your moves before you even see them. The linking grabs are just for showing off when your opponrnt is a bloody amateur.

You say she stays on the ground too much? not a problem. Unfortunately I happen to know bryan is one of the (very very few) characters that Xiao has *major* problems with, so too bad- wont be able to actually *prove* you wrong there. I usu play xiao, switch to Jin for bryan, heihachi +other mishimas, and anyone else that gives me a bit of trouble.
Xiaoyu doesnt rank in tekken5? hmmm you my be right. Xiao is crippled badly in that game. BUT when game companies try to cripple a character thats too powerful, they usually don't succeed (just look at guile). However in Dark ressurection, Xiaoyu is MUCH better so I imagine tekken5 xiao is still kind of low-tier. Such a pity. I'm so used to eating up almost everything people throw at me , so to see her have so much stuntime and so little priority in tk5 is irritating.
Girls more powerful than the guys? I disagree. everyine knows the mishimas have always been the powerhouses in Tekken. In tekken1 Kazuya had a 80-100% life juggle combo that was just 4-5 hits. The traditio has remained strong. Mishimas KILL.

play DOA4. The countering system is rebalanced and the game is BLINDINGLY FAST. At the moment its my favourite fighting game, because
it isnt so dependent on cramming moves and counters and stuntimes like tekken (when u play a tekken geek its irritating, he just keeps dialling out the same patterns over n over again with a bored look on his face). In DOA the game is so fast that even if you know whats coming, you need to react, and many times whats coming may jujst be a %age chance- not ever 100% certain whats coming out. Because of that, once a few rules are learnt, even a beginner can stand up to a pro! To consistently win, you have to become a true NINJA! its like high speed rock-paper-scissors. really easy but u can't buttonmash to victory cause of punishing stuntimes and sharpsharp counters.
I prefer it nowadays because due to my busy schedule I can't be cramming moves from morning till night. If someone visits me, in 30mins they already know what they are doing and we can have fun. score 1 more for team ninja

TEKKEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No Doubt. I love Nina, Christie, Hwoarang, Xiaoyu, King, Law, Ganryu and Julia. Anna is a bit cool but then those girls are very fast and flexible. I'm not sure who I hate more - Kazuya, Marduk, Dragunov, or Heihachi.

Exactly why I hated facing Heihachi's father in the Story Battle of Tekken 4. However, I agree that the girls are not stronger than the guys but somehow they are more strategic in their approaches and they appear to go lower. except for Law and King (they go quite low as well). |

@j-girl I think you mean Heihachi's father in tekken 5 :-) Female characters are my first choice, because my top character in streetfighter is, has always been and will forever remain Chun-li. Other fighting games just copy her style (speed, agility, quick grabs, low power) and so, I usually know that when i pick a female chara, I'm essentially using chul-li. Because I need to 'show' people who just depend on cheap overpowered characters who's boss, I also play Ryu, and I choose the 'clones' of him in other fighting games as my 'backup' for when someone appears who chunli/chunli clone just can't beat. This means the mishimas in tekken, the ninjas in mortal kombat/doa4. In short, the boring characters! |

@ darkmanzero, lady lover Good thing you recognise the Mishima style of hand to hand combat . Seriously though, i agree with what you're saying but i've always been an average build character user. On any version of Tekken, my fall back character is always Kazuya. When i pick him, it means i'm serious and you'd better know everything on his move list to stand a chance. Then again, there're hidden combinations i derived myself which you wont find funny. Thats the beauty of Tekken, you don't have to stick to the move list to come up with a killer routine!
Oh, and by the way: This is still LUSH! I keep getting kicked off the forum for making ludicrous comments

@Lushous Thats the problem I have with tekken, why i don't play at an expert level anymore. Its all about the routines and patterns. Tekken is at a point where you have to cram the best routines and bust them out like clockwork or you'll just get killed even by someone who isnt paying attention. It doesn't challenge the raw skill, reflexes and reactions of the player until 2 people of equal experience are playing, and even then, after 30mins when una don learn each others game it just becomes a boring stalemate. In streetfighter, there were many excellent routines and paterns, but your delivery mattered- be even 1 millisecond off in your input and you'd fail. this meant that someof the best patters were so hard to do the risk was high, and easy patterns were usually not very good but 'safe'. So at the end, the more skilful player wins, not just the guy that spent hours jacking cheat books and move lists. Look at guile. just 2 moves but the strategies can fill a book. That's why I prefer faster games like soulcalibur,VF and DOA4. in those games, delivery and risk+reward have a higher premium. DOA is my favourite because it has a HIGH element of PURE LUCK that means even a novice can give a pro a challenge. of course this means it is useless as a serious tournament game but in these days when its so hard to find people who play fighting games, its better than just sitting down, bored, killing everybody on tekken then one guy comes on holiday from kafanchan and uses yoshimitsu to terrorise u for 1 day. There are many times ive gone to game-houses or 'chambers' where the players were all obviously so much better than me but i kept killing them just because i was using xiaoyu routines they were not familiar with. Of course once they start to get the gist I'd have some important thing to do elsewhere on soulcalibur however, if someone is better than me they will kill me regardless of 'strategy'. if u can GI you can GI and SC is all about reactions. Even if a guy doesnt know your routines, he can read you by looking at the animation of your character. THAT is soulcalibur. |
