What Is The Political Value Of Nairaland?
« on: October 29, 2009, 02:32 PM »

I've been thinking and really thinking. First a recent report ranking NL among the top 200 forums globally and a subscriber base of nearly half a million users. what is the economic value of nairaland?

I was joking with a friend recently that overall viewpoints and popular decisions on this forum can be channelled to appropriate quarters.  I believe it can be done subtly and gradually incrementally ultimately moving this forum from arm-chair critiquing to a formidable and influential pressure group.

This is the age of the media evolution. this forum is well positioned to cause a desired change all it takes folks is BELIEF.

actually many people got jobs through the site, made money when the going was good at the NSE, career-wise got certified quicker in their various exams esp IT, SAP, accounting etc etc, plenty got advise for visa application

I guess you mean on a political scale no effect but individually I'd say the effect and potential effect is massive!
It wasn't designed to be a tool for change in the society, the young man was just creating a simple forum to generate income-so kudos

It depends on who is talking and if its realistic. If people dont think politicians or Nigerias Elite dont read NL posts, then they are highly mistaken.

Relatives  of the Elite dey on NL, children, family friends and co(they might not say it) . . . . . so yea depends if the political opinion is actually reasonable and not off the wall.

money and opinion dey in NL forum

You will never know the real VALUE of Nairaland now not until you fall into the mist of those that need some little advice, and they have no other place to go than to POST their CRITICLE questions unto nairaland and @ the end begin to see alot of advice / comment from thousands of people accross the globe.

NAIRALAND is not a POLITICLE forum neither is it a GOVERNMENTIAL forum, but belief me or not, some things we post or comment on this SITE are been followed by some people who are ready for CHANGE in our great NIGERIA.

I HAVE LEARN ALOT FROM THIS HOUSE, GOD BLESS NAIRALAND, GOD BLESS THE FAITHFUL POSTERS,

papa.

I think obasanjo and chief bode george should have seen this article, if they have, chief bode george would not be in jail. it was written by an igboman.

For the last 10 years, i have read nearly all of Godson Offoaro article. for any igbo telling yoruba people to ronu. it was a read.

http://nigeriaworld.com/columnist/offoaro/020706.html

And what happen to chief bode george and iyabo obasanjo would also happen to northerner. and i think turai and yar adua cabinet would also end up in prison if yar adua leaves office because ethnics and tribal sentiment is in nigeria. and the next govt would make sure, if they cant get yar adua, they would make his wife pay for him. I say it do not listen to calls by some people. who want nuru ribadu and any northerner to replace yar adua. if yar adua leave. a southerner must replace him. not a northerner. so all those northerner thinking they would replace yar adua are wasting thier time.

That why a constitution amendment is important.

1.  we remove the yorubas, edo, delta and bayelsa into benin republic to make the north the majority.

while in the  REMAINING NEW NIGERIA, you create 4 region

2.    eastern region  ,   river, akwa ibom, cross river, imo, enugu, abia, anambra, ebonyi
3    middle belt  region,    -- taraba, benue, adamawa.plateau, nassarawa,
4     north west,    ----------kaduna, niger, sokoto, kebbi, zamfara
5    north east region. ------------ kano, jigawa, borno, yobe, bauchi, gombe

No, i cant, it is people like you, who we see as idiot. who have made nigeria , this way. if we speak out, nigeria would not be where it is.

your tribal sentiment have blind your eyes, the USA is where it is because people like me speak out. if you have northing useful to say, why dont your keep your piece of empty mouth shut.

Go play with 7 years old. that where you belong to.

The bible says woe to him that call good evil and evil good. look you, even to yar adua face, i would speak my mind. i dont care if you people call him rankadede. only a piece of shit human being would call another man rankadede. go kiss ass somewhere else FL Gators . I feel the sections which make the most impact on peoples lives are jobs/career, computers, phones, family, technology market, education, literature, religion, graphics, tv (free to air) and the webmasters sections.

The other sections are just places for beer parlour, market women and silly bedroom gossips & yarns.

The political section has made me understand Nigeria and Nigerians better.

All in all, Nairaland has a lot of economic value cos it has improved peoples lives immensely but it isn't worth that N25 billion wey Seun dey ask for.

It's political value is next to zero sha IMO.

@Seun. Angry Angry Angry Why did you change the title of this post. Nevertheless i agree with some fella here who says that Nairaland was never really created for Nationalistic or social reasons rather for commercial reasons. be that as it may, the perception could be altered. who says NAIRALAND cannot become a political party in the future or throw its support behind a candidate. it's political value could be harnessed and estimated SEUN but then it's plenty of  dogged hard work. Right now its tottering at the lower limits; plenty of raw stuff but in time it should all even out

NL could be a very inetersting forum and there is no doubt that someday it could get to pull a a great deal of pilitical influence!

But sometimes I wonder if it's beginning to loose focus. The more I frequent the romance section the more I wonder what the heck the moderators of this forum are up to. Those days you open a topic with great anticipation because you just know it's going to lead to a scintilating and intersting conversation. But nowadays, the forum is crowded with silly posts and mindless chatter and I wonder what it will look like in 5 years time.   Undecided

I think membership should be restricted and topics should be screened. If someone posts something like this . . .

http://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-345049.0.html

. . .  I wonder why they dont delete it or at least move it to the approproate section before it comes to occupy space on the section!

The bickering, antagonism and bias may not be entirely avoidable but it could be controlled. If a controversial topic is posted, I'd expect the moderators to be there to either caution offensive posters or act as referees in fights; not to indiscriminately delete people's posts . . just because they can!

I do love NL, but I think it's becoming too much for whoever is in charge to handle and if this continues, the forum will not grow more than this playground it has become!!

Just a thought dou!

That's just dumb! People do have emotional problems where they get good advise from the romance section. People meet each other from the dating and meet up zone and it leads to good and lasting r/ships, people learn one or two things about sex from the sexual room! I think every section is important and appriopriate for the reason it was created for. Every section has its own desired impact!
