On October 26, Ambassador Xu Jianguo attended the Contract Signing Ceremony for the Nigerian Railway Modernization Project, Phase 1, Segment 1 Abuja – Kaduna between the Federal Government of Nigeria and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC). The Minister of Transport Ibrahim Bio and the Managing Director of CCECC Nigeria Ltd signed the contract on behalf of the two sides. Ambassador Xu extended his congratulations to the signatories in his address.

In his interview to the Xinhua Agency, Ambassador Xu said, "The contract is historic because this is going to be the first modernized railway of Nigeria. It is a milestone in Nigeria's transportation sector. It reflects that the China-Nigeria economic cooperation has been developing robustly.
