Genesis 4:14:: King James Version (KJV) - “Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.”

At this time there was only supposed to be living on the planet Earth 1. Adam, 2. Eve, 3. Cain who killed Abel, the only other person on the planet Earth right? Right! So then who was the “EVERYONE that findeth me (Cain) shall slay me?” Think now. Just stop and think. Then look at Genesis 3:1:

Genesis 3:1:: King James Version (KJV) - “Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?”
“. . . And he (the serpent) said unto the woman . . .” There are no species of snake that can speak, and no species of reptile have a larynx. In order to hold a conversation, and don’t say the heavenly father gave him or it that power, just to beguile (trick) Nekaybaw (Eve) against his own commandments, no, not really. Think! And one more point, (Genesis 4:16) “the land of Nod,” if this is the first and only family on the whole planet Earth, no one else was created yet, just (and I repeat) 1. Adam, 2. Eve, 3. Cain, tell me who set up the land of Nod? Who were the people that lived there, where did they come from, and how long before Adam and Eve did they exist?

Now this is a very interesting topic. I'm of the view that there are possible indications that 'man' (as human) might have existed before Adam. This is not because of the idea some people have that Cain married one of his own sisters, or of some presupposed people dwelling in Nod, etc. Rather, while tracing our own humanity back to Adam as the head of the present human race, this does not mean that there have not been other intelligent beings that may be classed as homo sapiens.

Certainly, many, many Christians (and other religious minds) may strongly disagree - and they may quote several verses here and there to support their own views. That is all okay: I know of many of those verses; but after all is considered, it still does not negate the fact of a strong possibility that there might have been humans in existence before Adam and Eve - and that can be established as a Biblical fact as well.

For starters, let me leave an interesting note that not many people might be aware of, viz: the Christian faith is predicated upon the revelations of the Jewish people. As such, one helpful hint might be to draw from something that the Jews themselves hold as a fact. It is common knowledge that the Talmud (in Shabbos 88; Chagiga 14) speaks of 974 generations before Adam. Further, they see this as accounting for the prehistoric humanoid remains that have been discovered hidden in caverns and layers of time.

Now I know that some who are accustomed to traditional interpetations of the Bible may split hairs over this; but I only mention the matter of the Talmud to help stir our interest towards the fact that even the Jews themselves do not hold that Adam is the very first man ever to exist. More on this later, where needs be.

There's nothing wild about your guesses, so I think there's much value in your question. Personally, I would say that the way Genesis puts the narrative in chapter 6 about the Nephilim could suggest indeed that there were some beings closely identified as human in one form or another. Especially verse 4 -

             There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that,
             when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they
             bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old,
             men of renown.

There seems to be a delineation between two periods here:

             (a)  in those days

             (b)  and also after that

The question that immediately comes to mind is this: where and when did the giants emerge? Surely, that verse did not say that they giants were the products of angels having sired human children from women - no, for that is the traditional way many people have read it.

Looking carefully, the verse first notes that there were giants in those days and after that. .   Certainly, after the angels came down to do their 'thing' with those women, we read the product was some species which became "mighty men" (distinct from the "giants" in the earlier part of the verse).

Now, if this line of reasoning has some substance, I dare say that the giants were already there before the angels sired children through women. The necessary question would lead to the inference that some beings closely in semblance to humans were already on the scene - how far back or when exactly they appeared is not something I can decipher from Genesis at the moment.
