Yes read alot especially newspapers. Also, try to listen to international news (CNN and BBC although national news helps a bit too) frequently. Thereafter, you have to keep applying any new words or sentences learnt every other day. Hope this helps.

You guys may say whatever you want but I recommend reading English and American newspapers and magazines, if you really like reading newspapers. This is because not only will reading Nigerian newspapers fail to enhance your writing skills, but it will also worsen your current writing skills.

Read local and international newspapers and articles, especially those online. Independent, The Guardian, Times Online (Search for them) are quite popular newspaper sites in the UK. You can look up unfamiliar words using dictionary.com or thesaurus.com

@ poster. You want to become a professional writer like Grisham and the likes, or you just want to know the rudiments of writing? Beware of Local Newspaper, many of them contain grammaticl blunders and spelling errors that can fill an empty basin,

I would recommend that you desist from reading Nigerian newspapers because they are replete with grammatical and spelling errors, but you can read American and British newspapers. If you like Nigerian material, read books from reputable Nigerian authors like Achebe, Chimamanda, and other Nigerian authors who are trained in writing or have degrees that inherently involve writing. Also stay away from the editorials on Nigeriworld.com, as the editor allows contributions from authors who have no writing pedigree or skill.

Spend more time reading, especially current stuffs. Watch narrative movies(from FOX, 20th CENTURY WARNER BROS) they will give you a good idea of how to start you write up.

The best way to improve your writing skills is to read some journals, magazines, newspapers, etcetera. Then try to summarise what you read. Try to keep a daily journal where you record events and your thoughts. When reading take particular note of new words, their meanings and spellings. I believe you would improve if you have enough discipline to do all of these. All the best
