If you have relocated back to Nigeria after a couple of years abroad and have picked up some tips from your own experiences or stories heard, please share. Even if you never left but have tips to help your fellow Nigerians, drop a line.
I'll start:
Tip 1:
When your Driver asks you for a loan/salary advance, if you're going to grant his wish, make sure he has at least provided you the equivalent in service eg if he earns N1000 a day and has worked only 2 days this month, you shouldn't be loaning more than N2000 unless you are willing to risk him not paying back but going to the next job for a N1000 pay increase.
Tip 2:
If the bricklayer asks for 5 bags of cement, he likely only needs 3 but will tell you 5 in the hope that you'll give him the cash to go and make the purchase.
Tip 3:
If your housegirl is "going home" for Xmas, it's very likely she won't return after Xmas no matter what she tells you.
Tip 4:
When you buy electronics, make sure you fulfill warranty conditions including installation by the vendor. The salesboy will tell you to use their in-house installer "under the table" for a slightly lower fee but the savings will mean nothing when he does the work in a shoddy manner and there's no warranty to fix the problem because you failed to pay the higher fee to the vendor directly in order to get coverage.
