Hello Doctors,
Please i need help on Urgency in Urine treatment for my father.

Do you need help as a matter of urgency, or your father is having urgency? Urinary urgency is usually associated with frequency. In men older than 45-50 years of age, increase in the size of the prostrate (for whatever reason) could be a significant cause of urgency, frequency, hestitancy, retention, etc. If urinary tract infection is excluded from this clinical scenerio, then you need to take your father to a urologist for a DRE, and other exams.

NaijaKing1,
He practically no longer has a bit of control over his bladder
and the urine comes out anytime,anywhere as it likes.
How do we solve the problem?

There is difference now in the symptoms you have given now insight. There seems to be incontinence added to the urgency. As naijaking has intimated, your dad needs to see a urologist for examination that might include cystoscopy. If urinary tract infection has been exclude, unusual in men, your dad might benefit from oxybutynin. This is all subject to urological diagnosis!!!

Thanks very much for your responses.
His problem is urge incontinence.
We are resident in Nigeria.
I wouldnt know if there's any
recommendable Urologist to contact in Nigeria.
But the oxybutynin seems to have a
terrible side effect according
to what i just read from wikipedia.
what do u think?

@Insight
Urge incontinence could be a sign of PBH, Prostrate Ca, or even prostratitis after UTI has been eliminated. I understand the side effects of oxybutin. If you're in a major city in naija, PH, Lagos, and Enugu, you might get a reference to one of the older retiring urologists in the area. The Urologist would give you other options after ascertaining the true cause of your father's urge incontinence. Sometimes Flomax shows a remarkable improvement in about a week, somethings surgery is needed, sometimes hormonal therapy like leuprolide is used. Final recommendation: urologist, urologist, urologist!

is it actually safe to reel out names of drugs so openly when you know the penchant of nigerians for self medication and the fact that only few of our pharmacies ask for a prescription before dispensing drugs?
please docs, lets tone down our advices a bit, afterall no consultation was paid for you to make prescriptions Smiley

Doctors in the house, I greet you. Kindly help me with this condition:

About 2 months ago I took a malaria injection  and about 10 minutes later I felt a numbness on my thigh which continued the next day. On the 3rd day I went back to the same hospital and the doctor allayed my fears and advised that I apply balm to it that it would go with time. Despite the balm application I could feel only partial sensation on that part of my body and it was quite worrisome.  Gradually the numbness gave way and replaced itself with a biting pain that  increases by the day. Ive been to 2 other hospitals after my initial experience and I was  given Vitamin C, Tramax Capsule, Neurovit Forte, Paracetamol and Balm. I don’t know what to do again and the pain still persists .   :'(If I go to another hospital they’ll still give me analgesic! The pain is limited to the thigh muscle/skin, the bone is ok. Isn’t there any test I can do that will reveal the cause of this stubborn ailment?  Please note that the injection was administered on my bum, not my thigh. Also, there was no abscess formed and the pain on the injection site did not last more that 2days! In other words, the injection might not be the cause of this ugly condition Undecided.
please help, somebody.

Good to hear that you're loosing weight successfully.

In morbidly obese people, hygiene could be an issue, however, if water is truely coming out of your anus, then you need an evaluation for fistula.

I suspect that excess skin folds, hair follicles produce a lot of sweat to make you think water is coming from your anus.

If the water 'feels, smells like sweat' I would say it's sweat, but if you're passing urine-like material from your anus, then you go for proctosigmoidoscopy(anal and rectal) examination by your md.

Sleeping positions vary, I would stick with which ever position makes you most comfortable.

@naijaking1, Naijamedico, Balogun & co.
I would say its water  but it is worsened when I sweat and now I can't afford to put on bright coloured trousers because of the embarassment the sweat causes.
What is evaluation for fistula and what does it involve?

As for loosing weight, I was down with typhoid  last week but I took out my sister's YOYO BITTERS, It didnt releive the typhoid at all but throught the 7 days, I neither lost appetite nor vomitted so my hope of loosing more weight was dashed but I'm trying.

Naijaking1, you skipped my post please I need a reply because this thing is becoming an embarassment

Doctors in the house, please help me.

I've bn sick for sometime now and among the lab tests I did, it was only malaria that was positive, I do have pains once in a while on my legs and the legs are sometimes heavy making it diffcult for me to lift them and walk.  At the hospital, I was given pain killers and antibiotics as well as malaria drugs.  I have taken the medication but I feel feverish (internal) once in a while, it could last for 30 min to Ihr and several hours in the night.  Its not constant though, like 2-3 days interval but am worried because I feel weak afterwards.

Any response will be highly appreciated, tnx.

Marami, I am sure kathyekiti is the one to answer your question. She would like to know your age and what type of contraception you use.
Need to know the contents of your over the counter medicine yemivictor. Some OTC medicines have effect on metabolism of some drugs

@marami
it is normal to see a change after childbirth.  Unfortunately this also makes it more difficult to estimate your ovulation date.  Your might want to purchase an ovulation kit to help you with figuring out your fertile days.  Also, Dr. Balogun was quite right in the additional questions he asked.  If you could answer those, I might be in a better position to help you

Hello doctors in the House.

Hello Doc. you are doing a beautiful work here, God bless you. Please kindly tell me what to do. sometimes ago after having sex with my wife, i discovered my privates frequently itched me and i asked her to go for a test after she complained of pains in the lower part of her abdomen as well. it was discovered she had a bladder infection and it was treated promptly over an extended period, after which the Doc gave her a clean bill of Health.i just noticed recently (few weeks ago) that some whitishly dry patches (like rashes) appear on my privates and they peeled off after some time.i thought that was all of it till i discovered those patches (although almost invisible now) swell up during sex and make sex painful for us (but only on the side of the patches) and gives her a swollen Labia on the side in contact with the patches.i read about it on the net and from what i could see, i might have been infected with yeast or something. what should i do (as i have never met any other woman apart from her in my entire life) ??

@man angel

Short answer: Both you and your wife should go register and consult with a GYNAECOLOGIST and bare in mind that YOU BOTH ARE LIKELY NOT TO HAVE ANY REAL MEDICAL PROBLEM till proven otherwise. NEVER be presumptive and THINK you have a problem all by yourselves,until you have seen the only one who can know - The health expert;the doctor. No one else.

between folks,I'm new here! I'm a medical doctor and I'm happy to be here.

@titlaelae.

I hope you are much less in pain now, seeing that you posted this over 2 weeks ago.

From all your accounts, it's likely you suffered Neuralgia. This is inflammation of a Nerve branch or Nerve bundlle; in your particular case it resulted from the sharp point of the needle traumatizing directly such a nerve/bundle in the buttock, exactly where the needle went in.

Now, you may wonder why you then felt the pain below this point in the thigh region.

Well, remember the nerves of pain are found in areas of the body tissues that can then be traced backwards to the Spinal-cord at the centre, whence it travels up the Spinal-cord to the brain where the stimulus is registered as conscious pain. The fact therefore is that any damage along any point of this Nerve pathway, could then be interpreted by the brain or "felt" as though coming from the source of the nerve ends i.e. the body tissue.

Your damaged Nerve branch/bundle, was actually coming from your thigh tissue area, hence the brain assumed the pain was coming from there.

Time will definitely re-oganise the injury and heal you up. How is the pain today?
