Megacid is a straight forward antacid. Used mainly in Nigeria. In Britain Gaviscon is the main antacid used. Most of these contain aluminium or magnesium compounds. Main medications used now are ppi (proton pump inhibitors). They all end in __prazole. Lansoprazole, omeprazole, esomeprazole

Dr,

Is staphylococus aureus and candidiasis easy to be cured, and would they be able to prevent one from conceiving.

How are they contacted.

@nggold
staph aureus is a normally on the skin but can cause skin infections or urinary tract infections.  There are different strains and some are harder to treat than others.  Candiasis is easily treated and does not affect fertility

Hi Doctor,
I have severe heartburn. It normally starts whenever i finish eating, what baffles me is that most foods i eat, i encounter heartburn.  Again, i have moles on my arms and chest. Also, i clear my throat anytime i finish eating. The outcome of the throat being cleared is thick mucus. I also clear my throat of thick mucus when i drink water. I also do sneeze the mucus off my nose sometimes. Do you know what is happening to me? Please don't tell me to go a doctor or pharmacist, i've gone and after giving me drugs - i still have the problem. The doctors here are not experienced. If you know what is wrong with me, tell me the name. I also experience stomache in the morning when i wake and sometimes, after eating.

I'm sorry you have not been lucky to obtain assistance from the doctors you've met so far. You seem to be describing a fairly common condition known as Gastroesphageal reflux disease GERD. I say this from the small history you have provided, there other conditions that might cause your symptoms. GERD is usually associated with some degree of aspiration that could explain the need to clear your throat repeatdly. I don't know your physical exam, so I advice you to go see a gastroenterologist or a surgeon.

Chiefs, sorry to hear about your father. Possibility of diabetic ketoacidosis. Is your father normally diabetic? Sometimes these cases are complicated with cerebral problems like swelling. You need to speak to your doctors who are treating his acute problems. They are there and in better position to explain the prognosis. Good luck

Dear Doc,
I have been trying to get preg for a while.
I was supposed to see my period on the 12th but it has not come up till now.
I feel cramps once in a while to b precise every 4hrs or thereabout.
Could this be the signs of early pregnancy.

When can I go for a test?
Thank you.

Hi kathyekiti. There must be a whole load of excitement in America at the moment with Obama. Makes us all realise with extra work and luck we can all make it to the top. From the advice you and naijaking give here I am sure you are at the top of your professions. Me, I am sticking now to lecturing med students and junior doctors

There are many things that could cause what you're telling us, but the most likely is hemorrhoids. Yes. it's associated with consitipation. Treatment: eat plenty of fiber to make your stool soft, sitz baths after bowel movements, and suppositories for acute cases. Don't forget to see your M.D

Just like naijaking said the likelihood is that you have haemorrhoids. Not all haemorrhoids bleed. They sometimes thrombose, which means the blood in them hardens  and gradually get smaller. As this causes pain, it discourages you from going to the toilet. This in turn makes you constipated.  The constipation causes you to strain which makes it painful to move your bowels, causing you more constipation. And you go round in a vicious cycle. Hope I dont need to describe it in vivid detail!!! Good fibre diet softens the stools and means you dont need to strain

Chriss2 you probably have wax in your ear. See nurse in your practice or your doctor. They would recommend drops to soften and dissolve the wax

Hello Naijaking1, happy new year to you and everyone on this thread.
My condition is still the same but I beleive I'll lose more weight soon.
The problem now is that I usually have sharp pain in my heart that extends to the back.
It first happened some years ago and the doctor I complained to recommended I check the blood pressure of my eyes(forgotten the medical name), I did and there was nothing wrong with my eyes, later it went away and recently it's back again and even lasted for up to two weeks.
What can be wrong this time?
