"Carine4, this is like an osce exam!! Medical joke .
Only thing that shows up there is anaemia. Low haemoglobin. Most of this should have normal range for you to know what is abnormal and what is normal.
Not sure what the units for your alk phos is. I am used to IU/litre. Maybe one of the other docs is familiar with that unit.
Also blood results are interpreted for different people and different ages. Hope that helps a bit."

Thanks a lot Dr Balogun, the results had the normal range but most of it was illegible, so i couldnt see it properly, the doctor however said i probably have a urinary tract infection, and i was a bit worried about the epithelial and pus cells present in the urine because from my lay man's knowledge, there shouldnt be white blood cells in the urine, though i dont know what epithelial cells are, pls what can i take for the anaemia?. Also i thought the creatinine, bilrubin and potassium levels were high based on the info i got from the internet, although the ifo on the net is a bit confusing. The doctor prescribed ciproflaxin for a week for the infection and also folic acid and fersolate for the blood, should i take anything else.
The reason i took the test was because i had been experiencing pitting edema off and on for about 8 months now, i am female 31 years and i dont have kids yet.

Doctor what do I need to know about having surgery on my finger.  How much does it limit mobility and how long would it take to heal?

Torn ligament on the base of left thumb and slight fracture (chip) on right 2nd finger.  Both hurt.

Ligaments are tough bands of tissue that connect bones together. . . When the ligaments have been sprained or partially torn, treatment may simply consist of a short period of splinting and early exercise. The PIP joint is very sensitive to injury and becomes stiff very rapidly when immobilized for even short periods of time. The faster the joint begins to move the less likely there will be a problem with stiffness later on. Many sprains can be treated with simple buddy taping to the adjacent finger. This allows the good finger to brace to the injured finger while at the same time using the good finger to bend the injured finger as the hand is used.

In severe cases, surgery is necessary to repair extensive damage to the collateral ligaments or volar plate. Surgery is also necessary to remove the volar plate if it becomes trapped in the joint and prevents the surgeon from realigning the joint without surgery.

  ***** After Surgery

You'll wear a splint or brace for three weeks after surgery to give the repair time to heal. Patients may be seen for physical or occupational therapy afterward. You will likely need to attend therapy sessions for two to three months, and you should expect full recovery to take up to four months.
The first few therapy treatments will focus on controlling the pain and swelling from surgery. Then you'll begin gentle range-of-motion exercise. Strengthening exercises are used to give added stability around the finger joint. You'll learn ways to grip and support items in order to do your tasks safely and with the least amount of stress on your finger joint. As with any surgery, you need to avoid doing too much, too quickly.

Eventually, you'll begin doing exercises designed to get your hand and fingers working in ways that are similar to your work tasks and daily activities. Your therapist will help you find ways to do your tasks that don't put too much stress on your finger joint. Before your therapy sessions end, your therapist will teach you a number of ways to avoid future problems.

Your therapist's goal is to help you keep your pain under control, improve your strength and range of motion, and regain fine motor abilities with your hand and finger. When your are well under way, regular visits to your therapist's office will end. Your therapist will continue to be a resource, but you will be in charge of doing your exercises as part of an ongoing home program.

Food that has vitamins to maintain the wear and tear of your body. If you are fat, try to lose weight. Regular exercise. Common sense things

topheal, it is unusual to be passing blood each time pass urine. You need to be seen by a urologist. Do you have history of tuberculosis

ulna collateral ligament injury? tell me more doc.  is it wise to go ahead with surgery, or would it be better to tape it up for a few months to let it heal?  I was told by one of my doctors that taping the finger may not be a good idea, due to stiffness.

C2H5OH, before I venture into treating people I like to have appropriate tests. Depends on where you are based. Access to MRI will tell you how badly damaged your ligament is and whether it needs surgery. Good ultrasonographers can interpret the same. See a plastic or orthopaedic surgeon with interest in hand surgery or someone who is a specialist hand surgeon.

Kathy and Naijaking. My visit will probably be around the 19th October for about 1 week. Trying to book a place on 5th Avenue. Better than last time when I was there for only 3 days. Gives me chance to look around more. Will be nice to take you great docs to dinner and like I said we can put right all the wrongs of the world Smiley

By the way septrin ( co-trimoxazole) wouldn't be my first line of treatment. Important therefore to consult a specialist. Treatment with wrong antibiotic might not get rid of STD assuming that is what it is, but get rid of some of the signs your friend is exhibiting

I haven't exactly talked to a "specialist" about an appointment for surgery per se.  I still need to setup an appointment to meet with podiatry and orthopedics, and they would be the ones to decide my fate.

I aint' scared of the surgery or nothing.  Can live with the pain but would rather not.  I am more concerned about the surgery limiting the mobility of my fingers.

were you referred to a specialist? how bad is the injury?

you really should read the link esp the non-surgical treatment section if there isn't any extensive damage and you want to skip surgery
http://www.eorthopod.com/public/patient_education/6566/pip_joint_injuries_of_the_finger.html

i'll suggest you go to the doctor/clinic to help you bind it as well. do just go to the store and do it your self. at least not for the first time

I haven't exactly been treating it.  The injury keeps getting re-aggravated time and time again.
