Federal perm sec: Bayelsa slot still pending as director fails exam

Tuesday, November 3, 2009

The new civil service reform, as regards the appointment of federal permanent secretaries, has ensured that each state of the federation is now represented at that cadre in addition to representations on geopolitical zones, except Bayelsa State which has none and currently has only one director in the Federal Civil Service.

The Economic Confidential, an online economic magazine, gathered that there was no law or policy that provided that permanent secretaries should be appointed this way, but this had always been adopted by the Federal Government for the purpose of equity and fairness to all sections of the country. In essence, all states where the permanent secretaries were affected by the new tenure policy had been replaced by the persons who came top in the selection process from the same states.

The vacancy for Bayelsa State could not be filled because the only director from the state in the service could not meet the set minimum standard for appointment during the recently concluded selection process. As a matter of fact, Economic Confidential learnt that the said director failed the examination and the Federal Government was determined not to compromise standard in appointing officers to this most important office.

The Economic Confidential further gathered that efforts were on to fill the slot from among those who might emerge as directors when the Federal Civil Service released the results of the recently held examination for the directorate level officers.

Exactly!
If it was JAMB, they would restrict the ND on federal character. Now that it is for govt postion, they have forgotten their convenient federal character and are trying to shame a state.

How many from Zamfara (home of sharia) are so good at passing exams and why aren't they disgraced for failing?

Govt is playing dangerous games with the ND.

Good to know that every reasonable Nigerian has come to terms with decree #34. The level of human perception or lack thereof is the most dangerous circumstance facing mankind.
