tosh, you have redeemed yourself with your sense of humour. LOL  Grin Grin Grin

Poster, yes, use your Nigerian passport to travel out - so no need for a Visa and then use the two together or just your US for going back to the US. (tosh was right this time - if you actually have a Nja passport then you should know the answer. But no harm in asking and confirming things.

red is also funny - wanting to have a baby in the USA - that is so calculating,  And the retort is good from both sides - BIG HUG all around Tongue

Good stuff, we're all friends once more!  Smiley

I'm definitely getting a Nigerian passport, when I get to Nigeria within the next 3 weeks. Have taken all required vaccinations, and started my course of anti-malaria pills.

Why is it impossible to imagine that someone with 2 passports would have a problem? I was told of a guy who arrived MMA with both US and American Nigerian passports, and somehow the Nigerian immigration officer stole his US passport.
Guys, if you have answers or useful suggestions, let's have it, if not just move on. There's no need for insults, there's no need to prove anything to anybody.

True or false? You need to travel to Nigeria with both US and American passports?
If true, when do you present your Nigerian passport and when do you present your US passport to the different entry points?
If false, do you need a visa to enter either country?

I don't know why this is funny Huh
Why should having 2 passports be such a big deal?
There's some degree of anxiety if you're travelling like that for the first time, and that's why I don't see any joke here.

Is it advisable or even necessary to register with the US embassy in Abuja? A colleague whose child was kidnapped in Nigeria was rebuked by the embassy for not registering their presence in Nigeria upon arrival.
Serious suggestions please, no jokes.

TRUE- Present your Nigerian passport on arrival at MMA. Put your US/American passport away and make NO mention of it till when you are ready to depart.

By either country you mean??
-You would ONLY need a visa to gain entry into Nigeria if you you would be presenting your US/American passport by itself.
-Your US/American passport by itself is good enough for depature from Nigeria and entry into the US.

Having two passports is not a big deal. However, I'm going on a limb and concluding that @bluespice and @Sienna were having a good laugh at what appears to be a typo as was pointed out

Advisable maybe but NOT necessary.

I don't know of anyone that has ever registered. However, you might find it necessary if you feel like you are going to need their assistance while there. Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot.
I see the US/American passport typo now.

Your explanation makes better sense to me now. My friend just told me to go to naija with my Nigerian passport and return with my US passport, and I never understood it. You know, when anxiety and fear begin to take hold, every small mole of a confusion is made into a mountain.

Glad we got that all sorted.

So the general rule is, present your Nigerian passport at the Nigerian entry point, and the US one when returning to the United States.

That way, no visas are required.

Good luck on your forth coming trip.

also remember to train your body to be used to the heat. an hour a day in the sauna should do  Tongue
i was in nigeria a few months ago for the first time in about ten years.

totally worth it although i stayed for 5 days and enjoyed five hours of electricity!
the street life though is interesting. food is always fresher with no funny chemicals.
the roads are not good to be honest. we were racing through potholes and have some money with you.
expect some slight police questioning. they stop cars to ask for license and stuff like that. make sure you get your international driving license

the pace of life was very slow for me in the evenings, except the noise of the generators, it was alright
you tend to laugh a lot in nigeria,  dubai is too fast paced

Speaking about international driving license, does Georgia driving license qualify as one?

no that is a state's license but you can apply for it in the traffic dept and pay a small fee.
you should have your normal license to be presented to them that's all i think, at least that is how we do it here (40$)

Can you give advice on best way to prepare for rent-a-car in Nigeria? I think I will travel to Abuja and then rent a car to Lagos to avoid all of the hassle I have been warned about. Is this a good idea? If what -costs, requirements and deposit info. Thanks everyone

^^^ Not sure if you mean self-drive hire?

If so, not sure the smaller car hire firms in Nigeria, will be any good to you, as they're a bit iffy renting out just cars, without drivers.

I should imagine bigger firms, like Hertz or other chain will do self-drive hire though.

I think justwise's advice was pretty much on point.
To add to that, try to keep a low profile. Not everybody can be trusted. Most can't, in fact.
Will you be staying with family or friends?

The thing is I have to get to Lagos and then go to family members home. I have been home in years and its getting difficult making arrangements. Once I get home and get to my family, Ishould be okay. But getting there is the thing. Not knowing who is still in the same place or moved, etc. You know!
