Trailer Or Tipper/dump Truck Which One Is More Lucrative?
« on: November 06, 2009, 02:41 AM »

I am interested in going into truck transportation business, but I don't know which one is more lucrative, trailer/tanker or tipper/dump truck.
Please I am in urgent need of advice from NL members. I am capable of starting up with about N12m.
I also want to know what and what are needed to start it and what make and model truck is preferable. I have access to MACK, KENWORTH, PETERBILT, WESTERN STAR and VOLVO. I don't have access to MERCEDES, MAN DIESEL, DAF and SCANIA but I can import them from EUROPE if they are more preferable. I mean any advice on this will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Truck heads/Tractor units will make you 55k everyday.

The truck can do a maximum of 3trips per week @ 80k per trip.

Therefore:
One trip -             80,000
Fuelling  -            11,000 (110 per ltr, 100 ltrs per work day)
Driver's allowy       7,000 (per work day)
Miscellenous          7,000
Balance                55,000per trip

Multiply by 3 and u get 165,000 per wk and 660,000 per month

Patrick45,I can not thank you enuogh for your quick response and detailed explanation. God bless you.
I know that MACK, MERCEDES, MAN DIESEL, DAF and SCANIA are popular in Nigeria, which one of them do you think is better as regards to Nigeria? Again, how much do you think it will cost to put one trailer on the road? Do you also have idea how much the DUMP TRUCK (Big ones with ten tires) could be making a week or a month?

Are you ready to buy trucks from Europe? I run a company called Export Truck Agent. We export trucks into Nigeria on a monthly basis. Email me if we can be of assistance to you.

Technic, yes I want to buy trucks, however I still need to find out which ones are better for Nigeria. Also I am considering tractor/trailer or Dump truck/tipper. I'll get in touch with you as soon as I finish the market survey.

According to our representatives and buyers in Lagos, these trucks appear to be popular at the moment:
DAF 85, DAF 33, IVECO(EURO STAR), MAN DIESEL,

 @ Dubino

I think 'Mack' is the best followed by Daf.

 All the best.

Hi ,

All forms of transport business are worthwhile here. THE MAIN ISSUE IS OPERATION. YOU NEED TO BE HANDS-ON IN RUNNING IT OTHERWISE YOU WILL HAVE INVESTED FOR OTHERS TO BENEFIT AND YOU WILL LOSE OUT. SO if you are not ready to run it check your self or find someone who is trust worthy , (which is very hard in Nigeria now) Angry
