Cld the expert{s} give me a very important advice as to changing my manual car to automatic gear? Its advantage and dis-advantage , as well as the cost here in lagos and where to get it done professionally.
I love the make of the car{scopio ford}german spec, but only the fact dat its manual, it was given as a gift and hence don't want to seem ungrateful dats why am not putting it up for sale.Hence am left with no other option,
Opinions from all welcomed and with reasons.
Cheers
The first hurdle will be obtaining the parts required. I'll run through the list:
1) Auto transmission.
2) Flexi plate.
3) Torque converter with shorter bolts (flywheel for manual is much thicker, so bolts will be way too long).
4) Radiator with integral transmission oil cooler.
5) TCU (Transmission Control Unit).
6) Auto transmission wiring harness.
7) Auto shift linkage.

Auto brake pedal.
9) Auto starter motor.
Your garage may be able to cut this list down, depending on how good they are. For example, they may be able to retain your regular radiator, and fit a remote transmission oil cooler - you can get these new on Ebay for about 20 GBP.
I have listed a TCU and wiring harness, you may not need these, all depends on how old your car is - early cars had a completely hydro-mechanical auto tranny, so easier to fit.
You may need a different propshaft, all depends on the differences in length between the auto and manual trannies.
Fords have different camshafts between auto and manual cars, but not an issue. Your idle speed will be lower, so may stall if drive is selected in auto mode. Your mechanic will need to find a way to increase it, again, depends on how good he is. It's controlled by Fords EEC-IV system.
