Well I think it is trying to say:
Logic is predicated on traditional methods- which have been tested and accepted- on reasoning. To engage in logical arguments, one must be versed in these tenets of logic, because a lack of knowledge of conventional styles of logic would make one unable his or her argument as precisely as they would want to.
you could give examples of what happens when someone cannot understand the flow of an argument/misconstrues an argument.
