« on: January 07, 2007, 10:32 PM »

I want to buy a fixed wireless phone for browsing and i have been able to cone down to either Starcomms or Multilinks. I want to find out how the services of both compare, cost implications, payment plans etc. I'D like Nairalanders who use the services to help me out. Thanks.

Simply settle for Multilinks their mode of payment is more flexible and their customer care is ok.Starcomms suck, recently discovered that their firewall has been blocking some websites, just buy the phone,a data cable and a PC with a COM port for the connection and you are up within minutes, if there are questions u can reach me on 08034087776.

Starcomms EVDO works great, i believe the 1X service too good because sometimes my modem falls back on the 1x network.  Today i downloaded Ubuntu 7.04 desktop and 7.04 Beta server Os. give it a trial pal.

Multilinks' Internet service has been superior, but for some weeks it's been really bad.  Have you noticed this?

Forget Starcomms and their Evdo scam, run on to multilinks. They say it costs 15k per month but in reality you can spend 10k per month yet make 8k worth of phone calls out of the total 10k. Starcomms is good when it comes to QoS and bonanzas but internet, forget it.

@ Instinct,

Where do you reside? Evdo may not work in Bizl's area and if it does he could be getting as low as 11kbps which should be reported to the EFCC! Grin

@ Seun,

Is it multilinks or is it that your sent packets are now more than ur received packets?

@instinct

the Starcomms 3EVDO   service does it really provide the 300/600kbps speed it promises.cause i've been considering it
for some time, but i will like to hear from someone who has experienced it.
also when it comes to downloading what is your average download speed and how long does  take to download files up to a 100mb.

My own Multilinks line gets frequently stops working when I'm browsing.  Like once every 5 minutes or less.
And I'm in the same location I've been using since the day I started Nairaland.  It used to be perfect. Sad
It's so bad that I'm thinking of an alternative apart from Starcomms.  So I can't currently recommend Multilinks.

Meaning what?  That it's my fault that my Multilinks line is messing up?  What have I done wrongHuh

Coincidentally my boyfriend and i were discussing this issue just last night, and after weighing both options extensively, we decided he should buy Starcomms.
Am surprised to wake up this morning and see this topic on nairaland. My God is there anything you can't find on Nairaland?HuhHuh???This is truly amazing.

I presently use Starcomms, and its ok.

I think you should take advise from whoever has used the two,

such person will know which is better. Consider location too, goodluck.

i use starcomms and am exttremmmely un impressed because d speed can be as "fast" as lightnin up t0 4kbps!! Shocked
i think companies like that shld face some kind of diciplinary action from d NCC for decieving customers and their customer care realy Sux dey've got voice clarity locked down bt dey should forget internet, Angry am currently considering other broadband conections , maybe swift networks

Well,

I use Starcomms and it serves me well. Location could be an
issue as mentioned by every one. I stay close to Unilag and it was a mystery that the first Multilinks I got had no network but immediately I took the starcomms home, everything just dey work dey go  Wink

« #31 on: March 28, 2007, 09:51 PM »

i'v used both, multilinks seems to be more reliable (fewer cases of downtime) starcomms on the otherhand has firewall that blocks certain websites also while chatting you can't add contacts(all these don't happen with multilinks) but in terms of speed i think starcomms is ok In Maryland (atleast) its quite fast. if you want fewer hassles i'D advise you go for multilinks, i just don't like the payment plan, i mwean if you're paying for internet, then pay for internet why should the charging plan for internet and phone calls be bundled. Personally i think its a stupid idea especially if you like to stay on the phone for a long time, i grew up  when nitel was still functional and i'm still used to the idea of seatin back and talking for hours gosh i wish those good ol'days would come back *ok i'm awake now* good luck making up your mind i hope i'v been of great service to you (and anyone else out there who's been pondering on this issue)
