Well, let the expert chip in Grin
There is nothing wrong in breastfeeding in public especially for mothers practicing baby friendly. But like layi and co said you have to be stylish about it. You don't have to expose the whole thing as if youre in your sitting room cause it could be offensive to some people around you at that time. Some women are too shy to do that so they express it into a bottle, but that is not advisable all the time cause it can turn sour and cause your baby's stomach to run.And it is also very painful to express. And yes seun breast feeding is very good for the baby and highly advisable and recommended. IAH my dear, the benefits of breastfeeding cannot be overemphasized. It will save you alot of stress. Wink
My two cents  Cheesy

Breast-fed children tend to be healthier than children fed with cow's milk.  This is a commonly known fact.  See advantages of breastfeeding/

I'm well aware of the fact about breastfeeding........but wot of if i don't want to.it doesn't sign up my kids as unhealthy.just some extra work on their diet and hygiene.  Alot of mothers these days go for exclusive bottle feeding (so to speak) from day one of their baby. It's easy for u guys to talk about breastfeeding.it's not always convenient for mothers.from changing to nursing bra and careful selection of wot u wear to change in boobs shape and being there always to breastfeed. You can easily give a bottle feeding baby to someone to help babysit.

For those who don't want to breastfeed...its a personal choice..
For those who do...of because they can breastfeed anywhere. It is possible to feed discreetly.(I've fed my kids on trains, planes, restaurants without anyone being any wiser)...and when they realise(because I mention it) they go out of their way tobe helpful.
And it's so convenient...no dirty bottles or warming bottles. You can express some and freeze if someone else will be feeding omomo sometimes-expressed breastmilk is good in the freezer for up till about 3months, fridge for 24-48hours....and you can mix feeds(bmilk and formula)
A mother breastfeeding her baby makes a beautiful picture...

@Roca, No kids yet right?
A s a mum of 2 boys who screamed their heads off if u brought a bottle near them, I say wait until you've had kids then come back and comment. Apart from the fact that beast milk has been proven to be better, u eliminiate sterilizing getting up in the middle of the night to warm/make bottles etc. My kids would not even take expressed milk in a bottle. I have fed in Barclays bank, west end, everywhere possible. With breast fed babies u feed on demand(someone mentioned feeding b/4 going out). I am what other people will call "posh", but that went out of the window when I had a screaming baby. Yes your boobes will change shape/size but that is just the price u have to pay. There is nothing a good fitted bra cannot do. And if u think that your hubby will not fancy u anymore because of this , then I am sorry you have married a wrong and shallow husband.

It's not a matter of it being wrong or right, but it cud be a bit nasty doing it in public as some women do not even know how to keep their bodies. They'D just open d thing fiam!
i Think a lady who finds herself in publinc and whose baby has d urge to breastfeed should ask for and enclosure or somewhere a bit private to breastfeed the baby. The boobs!!!!!!!!!!!!! r sppsd 2 be for "his" eyes only!

Its called a breast pump.  it is like a funnel you put on your breast that sucks milk out and into a bottle or a bag that you can freeze the milk to use later. Not painful i am told.

i'D breast feed in public. but only if my baby consented.  Grin i would try to be discreet & find a mostly- female zone but as they say "when nature calls, answer."

i don't have any kids but I've heard & read that breast milk is best for babies so I'm not going to deprive my kid just b/c others are a Lil squeamish. they'll get over it anyhow.

@ larger_20

you are right & wrong at the same time. many/most people in the u.s. don't breast feed in public. however lots of women breast feed. in fact the US DEPT OF HEALTH recently launched a campaign to encourage women to breast feed b/c of the health benefits for the infant & mother. (yes the  mother benefits too!) also women are more comfortable breast feeding in public though the public is not comfortable w/ them. a few months ago a woman was kicked out of a starbucks for breast feeding. so she got made and it made the papers. after that there was a "sit in" where nursing mothers all of the state went to starbucks' and breast fed.  Grin the starbucks people backed off. (i think this was on the east coast but don't quote.)

Well, i have a daughter that is 9months old and we did the breast feeding thing for 4months but never in public because she took her fomular when we were out, i mean bottle milk. You can breast feed in public if u cover the boobies good. I just didnt want to do all that but i find it disgusting when people r breast feeding 2yr olds and up, groosssssssss.

One more thing, it does not mean other babies that r not breast feed r unhealthy,  breast feed baby just has her immune system protected for the the duration of that bonding stage. And the bottle milk does not sour if you're gone for just a couple of hours and if you're at a house party u can refrigirate it or just buy can ones in coke looking cans, i guess if you're abroad. don't know whats in nigeria. Besides once babies get their shots, they aiight.
