Isn't a breast just flesh, muscles and some tissue, which is also designed as a reservoir of natural nourishing fluids for a baby. Why all the fuss about it?

Okay, is showing a male chest in public a problem too?  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

if you don't have kids or never breastfed, please don't come here and talk shite! any man who looks at a breasfeeding mum lustfully is a pervert,  breastfed bbies don't care where u are or if u have on a designer suit or not! when they are hungry, u have to feed them, or face their wrath  Angry. Also, to the person who said u should feed them before you go out,  HELLO??? what planet are u from?,  breast milk only lasts 90 minutes in a baby's tummy before they need another feeding, so goodluck in that area! you know the funniest thing Huh Boys are bigger feeders than girls! so all those guys who are gainst women feeding in public, its actually your gender that are more demanding! I have a boy, so i know what i'm talking about! And for those guys who care to know, breastfeeding is not like when your boyfriend or husband is sucking your tits, and its sweetin you,  no way! that shit hurts like HELL! Cry and after a while u get used to the pain! So don't think its a walk in da park!

@frankiriri,  do you have any kids? what if you have a baby that is allergic to formula?? trust me, it happens! and your baby can only take breast milk, and wont take it from a bottle?? what will you do? even if you don't have these problems, your wife may end up breastfeeding in a public place at one time or another,  by public, i don't mean, standing at ojuelegba busstop with her breast exposed,  but it could be somewhere that is not your home. The key is for the mom to wear tops that will let her be discreet and noone will know that your baby is having a 3 course meal! Trust me, BREAST IS BEST for baby! don't deprive your baby of top quality food, and nutrients to strengthen his immune system, just because of societal values. I live in the US and I have breastfed in public, and to be honest, noone give a shite,  its naija's that like to pretend to be self righteous, when we are the worse of the lot

@ babycakes
I get you. If she has to do it anywhere away from home then she has to go somewhere isolated. I have this neigbour that is always embarrasing me by bringing out her breast to feed her eignt month old daughter.  Her house is less than a pole away from where she does this.  Embarrassed :-[I always take off each time she does that.

Good stuff!

Listen, breast in public means sexual arousal in a man. Worse, I'm personally a "breast man" to boot! Plus, a lactating pair is even more titillating! A temporary bottle with formula until mommy gets home is not going to hurt the little thing. Let's be practical.

AckeeEater: That's your problem, not theirs.  A baby's health is more important than your problem with breasts.

Discreet is the key word.  A  lot of women are not discreet about it.

i wish someone could tell african women to stop breast-feeding their babies in public. it is indecent exposure, so get into your room and feed your baby. we can deal with the porn pics on display on streets already.

I just love african women because u can look all u want what they know is that baby's gotta feed.
but I hear that good breast feeding makes kids smart, so I figure that a kid whose mom has huge titties will grow up to be pure genius Wink Cheesy Smiley

breastfeeding in public doesnt mean you let the boobs just hang all out. you can be discreet. and you just wait till your child throws a freaking feat and nothing else works! you will have to do what you have to do. motherhood makes you do strange things.

When you have to pee, you have to pee but must you do it in public no! In the same vein, the boobs should not be publicly exposed in the name of the child gotta eat.

I don't see anything wrong in a woman breastfeeding her baby while in public. i have two boys and i did exclusive feeding for both boys. exclusive as they were strictly on breast milk for the first six months of their lives.

i breast fed them anywhere, anytime they demanded for it. i had to learn how to breast feed them without exposing every part of my breast. you would even see anything except the head of my baby when i breastfed.

at first i was shy to do it in public until i saw other mothers doing so both blacks and whites. i breastfed every where, on the bus, train, luas, plane, in the park, at church, parties you name it. and believe me it was a great experience for me.

Please give me a break!! Why oh why is breastfeeding in public indecent. The breast is primarily for feediing a baby not a sexual object.

Like the last poster said, I fed my children on demand on b. milk for as long as possible. That was everywhere - the tube, park, church etc etc and nobody batted an eyelid. Everyone to its own - if you feel uncomfortable breastfeeding in public or encountering a mother feeding all you have to do is to lock your self in your room to feed or look/walk the other way.

Nonsense,  Breast koo, milk ni. Choose one, Your baby's well being or your breast. You are even lucky that there are clothes around now. How I wish you were around before civilization when there were no cloths around and men and women are walking around almost naked with small leaves to cover their body.  Mind you, Everybody has got this thing you are making an issue,  I think Dogs should start wearing parachutes since they have 16. If this is an issue to you then i don't think you are ready to become mother.
