avira antivir should work. but there are other open source antivirus programs that can be of use to you and your friends. you in the sense that although those viruses can't affect linux but it's not good for your friends to get infected from you. look in the repositories and avira also runs on linux ok

Gamine is right.  AVG isn't good.  It only detects viruses, it hardly cleans them.  Avira is even worse.  (Talking from personal experience).

@ Gamine:

Get Kaspersky Internet Security ( Trial Version here).  It works perfectly well for me.

i wonder why people say avira don't work, it cleaned my pc that was fillled with over a thousand viruses a friends neTwork that contained over 5000 so tell me how it doesn't work, @hayprof its expired but since i can't browse on my pc, i have fewer vunerabilities so it still works but can't update

try using bitdefender 9 or higher or you can try this if the virus is in a removeable disk: in " my computer" click on tools and select folder options. go to view and scroll down abit, you will see a box labelled hide protected operating system files, deslect it and there will be a warning. select yes and click apply and ok. then open the disk or drive by right clicking on it and selecting explore, you will a lot of files named autorun, delete them all and eject the drive when you put it back the disk should be ok

how come no one mentioned mc afee? i use mc afee and it finds and deletes the malicous files. It actually takes a nice chunk of ur hard disk space But if u would like to save disk space, get pc cillin though mc afee has more feautures than pc cillin but the later is just as good.

The best way is to

1) remove all network connections to your PC
2) Disable all removable drives and external storage devices.

Voila, no virus. This worked for me for 3 good years. I was using windows and i wasnt running no antivirus.  Grin

This also similar to the concept of ZIP-UP for da AIDS virus!

Abeg no mind me o!

McAfee is useless!
AVG is foolish!
PC-Cillin is powerless
Avast is nonsense
Kaspersky is outdated

Norton is the best because Norton is ostrich and ostrich is the best.

If you could  be arsed to update your Norton antivirus frequently, RontokBro wouldn't be a problem.

It always amazes me when I see people complaining about anti-virus or some freaking spyware. Even if you visit lots of underground sites or you download anything more than consuming Amala, if you are cautious of what you click you won't be having problem.

Make sure your Windows Firewall is active, and get a good anti Virus.

I only use one Anti-Virus which Avast and I don't have problems, even if you get my address. With the noise of Avast, Viruses Always Pick Raise and I made sure that it. The Avast Updates Everyday so I don't have from.

Yesterday, my friend programmed a spyware, before it started loading Avast has immediately detected it.

The only person that scares me the most is my "FrozenEye".

@nazz then your friend isn't a good spyware developer. the way the windows os was built has many loop holes. so no matter what antivirus u use your pc is always at risk of being compromised. people who build this malicious codes are able to identify this and create exploits so what your antivirus basically does is to identify these threats and take proper measures against this invasion thats why you have to keep on updating

I really think AVG has been "overhyped a little, kaspersky would be a working and practical solution.

Cheers.
