Hey guys, i was wondering if Nigerian drivers licence is valid outside Naija.
Place state what countries (USA, europe) Naija licence is valid and for how long you can drive with it in the foreign country. Thanks

i don't think you can drive with Nigeria license in USA, you have to get US license. if you can't get it, tell someone you know to take you to were ever you going to, or catch the bus.  |

A Nigerian driving licence can only be used in Nigeria. In the UK a driving licence is issued in strict accordance with the rules and when issued, its for life.

U can't use a Nigerian DL in abroad. However if u have one. The process of gettin a a foreign DL becomes easier.In a place like USA. U can show ur home country's DL and get a US DL in a giffy. Wouldnt know if they still recognize Nigeria anyway.

The international driving license issued in Nigeria is valid for one year (only) in the UK. You will have to get the UK driving license after that.

No way Jose, you can not drive in the US with a Nigerian drivers license. 1st in the state you are required to pass a driving test before you can operate any automobile, and most state required you to have a valid insurance on the automobile, and there fore the answer is no. and that international drivers license is for people in Porto Rico or Virgin highland

Not in Belgium. Licences from Ghana, Togo & Benin are accepted though. The only advantage is that you won't have to pass a theoretical test anymore, only a (partial) practical test .

I think it depends on the state in the USA. I am not sure what the law is, but i know people that have been driving with their International Drivers License. Maybe they have just been lucky, i do not know. But it is so hard now to get a DL in the USA these days.

you can use it here in Canada for a year and after that you can get the Canadian one

@Nferyn Why is Belgian Authority discriminating against us now? We can drive very well but Lagos Drivers are "*******"  @LoverBwoy I did not agree with you completely Nearly anybody can use it but lenght of your stay in UK must be less than a year. Getting Insurance with such Licences is hell as well. |

Probably the biggest reason behind the fact you can't drive internationally with it is because a lot of people haven't got there liscence honestly, so they have no real way of measuring your ability.

What state in the USA can u get a DL in a Giffy? Prior to 911 maybe, but i am not sure it is as easy as you make it sound. What state are you in anyway? I have had mine for nearly 10years and i only do renewals. I have friends that have been here for 2-3years and still cannot get one with their international DL's. The requirements are getting even harder. Please tell me if you have the hook up.

If you have get an international drivers licence from nigeria, you can use it in the US. and you can use it to get theis US drivers licence .
My sister was driving before she left nigeria. But when she got to the US and she went for their test driving so she could get a drivers licence, she kept failing the test, shes used to the nigerian way of driving,lol.
So she just sent for the international licence from nigeria. Its even cheaper than the regular nigerian drivers licence. I think we paid about 400 or 500 for it. Then sent it to her. And kapish, she got her american drivers licence

In the US, if you have valid foreign driver's license and you have permanent residency (green card), all you need is to apply for US driver's license:
1.) study the state in the US where you currently reside on US DMV (Division of Motor Vehicle) driving study guide (manual book) in the preparation of the written or computerized driving test and road driving test by the licensed DMV testing staff to decide whether you pass or fail the test.
I recommend you to study seriously and ethusedly at least 2 weeks or more to be familiar with the state driving law at home and drive around city, parking lot, etc at least more than 3-9 months depend on each state of US rules prior to taking DMV driving test.
Best optional: you go taking 6-16 weeks US driving school to learn how to drive locally that is found at either local yellow page telephone book, US community colleges, google it or ask your insurance agent recommend you the name of driving school to take in order to build your confidence and highly self-esteem ready to be prepared for the DMV driving test
2.) bring your current valid foreign driver's license
3.) bring your green card
4.) bring your birth certificate/nationality
5.) bring your new US social security card ONLY after you got green card
6.) bring your valid auto insurance policy or card.
7.) bring money to pay for driver's license transfer fee ONLY if you already have foreign dirver's license to be replaced and pass the test.
