If the UNICEF data is juxtaposed with the JAMB one, one thing directly comes to mind: a good % of the students who attend secondary education in Lagos are from the South East. Unless someone can convince me that while other tribes stop mostly after 2ndry education, the Igbo go the whole hog (university/polytechnic) more than others. The question then will be how Lagos will post such high figures for 2ndry education and at the same time perform dismally in JAMB enrollment. The answer is simple. Whereas the UNICEF data comprise of all ethnic groups in Lagos, the JAMB one reflects admittant's real state of origin.

You people should tackle or accept your xenophobia first before we know which ethnic group is the most educated, particularly directed to an obdurate xenophobe lady on nairaland that lets veins pop out from her neck just to express this fact.

Nigerians kai!!!!

shameful and pitiful!!!

I fail to see your point.Unless u can show that a particular ethnic group has cornered the scholarships for Ivy League institutions.

I won't doubt that there are tons of smart yorubas in your school but then there are tons of smart Itsekiris,Ijaws,Igbos, ibibio e.t.c

All this is just stumbling in the dark.None of this tells us anything about anything.

There are tons of smart Scottish people in the UK.What does that tell us.?Nothing!

@Terracotta

Your analysis is incredibly flawed because u don't adjust for population differences

For instance,Kaduna has  higher numbers than Ekiti.Does that tell us that people from Kaduna are more educated than people from Ekiti. It simply means that there are far more people in Kaduna than Ekiti

What u need is data that tells u what percentage of people from a state are enrolled in school.
If state A has 2 million people and 1 million have gone through schooling,State B has 1.5 million and 900,000.The later is more educated even though it has fewer people who have gone through school

U have to make adjustments for population differences.Otherwise we can conclude that Nigerians are better educated than Jewish people because there are more Nigerians in school than Jewish

Go back and get us some proper data

You took the words right out of my mouth.
The Igbo states are definitely not as populated as Lagos.
If you look at pages 20 and 21,you'll see that Lagos recorded about 1.5 million for elementary school enrollment for males but only about 340,000 for sec school the same year  for males whereas Imo had 200,000 plus males registered for Primary  and about 100,000+ for secondary school same year that means that roughly only about 22 percent of Lagos inhabitants who went to primary school continued up to secondary where as 50 percent of Imo state males proceeded to Secondary school at the same time.

This is no way scientific since the same individuals are not being followed but gives a clear idea that Imo state and delta leading with JAMB enrollment is actually somewhat miraculous since they do not have the population of Katsina, lagos and Kano.
Could it be then as someone pointed out that since JAMB records state of origin,Igbos are very much in large numbers in these other states contributing to the figures we see?

It is a fact that Yorubas were the first to be educated and the most educated at some point in Nigeria but that is not the case today.
Might I also add that the Northerners have since enjoyed free education and various scholarship schemes and should have been far ahead of other groups but that's not the case.
