If the result had indicated Yoruba is the greatest, there would not have been any argument from these Oduduwa irredentists. So much for Yoruba hypocrisy. Your reign is over, bros. It is Igbo all the way!! Infact check those who have been able to contribute positively to Obasanjo's government. They are mostly Igbo )Soludo, Okonjo Iweala, Akunyili etc,) and check those incompetent ones; eg Aviation minister Borishade under whose regime 3-4 air crashes were recorded and Ehindero who cannot manage the Nigerian Police force.

@Topic

I believe for my father's generation (those born before independence), Yorubas were more educated but for my own generation, Igbos have caught up and probably overtaken them. Go to all these private schools in Lagos, it's Igbos all over the place, same with the public schools.

It was inevitable this thread would degenerate into a Yoruba vs Igbo pissing contest.

And the usual suspects are all accounted for

To people like xtycod- why do u guys try so hard to extol the virtues of your ethnic nationality by bashing others? It just diminishes any credibility your argument has and smirks of some sort of over-compensation. You always give the impression you're trying very hard to measure up to somebody else

And to all the Yorubas out there. I know u all grew up with the hubris of being the most educated in Nigeria. But it only seems that way from your town in Igboho somewhere. Its not really so in the outside world . We only seem more educated because of our large numbers. The rest of the country (especially the east) is just as educated now, if not more.

And this is a very good development because now maybe everybody will start thinking at our level  Grin

this argument cannot be won unless factual accounts or statistical sources can be provided. Calling a few names e.g people who have succeeded in Obj's cabinet, or Nobel laureates and the like don't really prove anything. They are simply successful individuals,

NYSC figures would be of help to an extent, at least in indicating the number of people who have undergone higher education.

another question -

does the term 'most educated' refer to the group of Nigerians with the highest number of degrees?

or the tribe/group with the highest proportion/percentage of their population being educated?

these two cases are markedly different, and the distinction has to be made.

I  personally have no particular opinion on this, I am simply an  'argument purist' - state your premise/position clearly and back it up with evidence Wink

 2. your picture
 How can we be sure this is not advance fraud?

I'll point out the key suggestions from debosky that you should really focus on to foster this discussion:

This thread is based on a ridiculuous premise.

Whos tribe is more educated?

Whos father has the longest d*** ?

How do these questions put food on your table?

Do people get some sort of validation of themselves from inconsequential  tribal arguments? Or are they just compensating for some unwaranted feeling of tribal inadequacy. (wetin be all this grammar wey i dey talk sef. I don dey mumu o)

@arzorjiu
In case it was all lost on u. the jibes about "thinkin like us" and Soyinka etc was made "tounge in cheek". Do not take too seriously

Its impossible to say who are the most educated people in Nigeria because of poppulation differences.Some of the smaller ethnic groups might be the most educated but we can't tell because of their relatively small populace

No one has mentioned the Itsekiris and all the smaller ethnic groups in the Niger-Delta

One good indicator will be finding out things like how many Nigerians hold patents for inventions in the US or loooking at Nigerians currently at Ivy League instituitions like MIT or Harvard

Even then population differentials can paint a confusing picture

i know this post is going to cause a lot of bashing and lots of stupid things.well for me the Yoruba's and Ibo's are equally educated if u say the ibos drop out to sell spare parts its better than the Yoruba's who drop out to become area boys. but to me when you talk of high level education and no of Profs and successfull business gurus, I'd give it to the Yoruba's.the Norths? well pardon me but they are a disgrace and shame to Nigeria

The Yoruba's off course are the most education people in Nigeria Wink Wink, the igbo people are mostly in doing or having business or chasing money around, most of them don't really futher their education like the Yoruba's Grin, while the people in the north are only about milking cowwwwwwwwssssss around.

Where do people get this idea that all Igbos do is chase money and don't further their education.
The simple non scientific way to proove you wrong is this.

1.Check jamb figures for Igbo states and Yoruba states.

2.If you schooled in Northern or Western Schools(secondary and post Secondary,even federal schools when federal was federal),how many of your teachers,lecturers,heads of departments were Igbos in these places and what population of students were Igbos.

3 If you schooled in Igboland,how many Yoruba teachers and students did you see?

Then for those of us who did some schooling here in the USA,we know that any Nigerian Professor or student in a school is more likely to be Igbo.
