Will you be there? When your wife is going through the pains of labour to deliver your baby, will you be in the labour room holding her hand? Or you can’t bear to see her in pains? Well, as a doctor I should be there but I can’t bear to see someone I love so much going through such pains, so I’ll go and stay in a place where I can’t even hear her shouting. The young women here can also contribute by saying if they will like their husbands to be there or not and if we have people who are married here(I doubt it), you can share your experiences too, whether you were there or not or whether he was there for you or not. Thank you.

I will like my husband to be there in a way and not in a way, so he has an idea of what it's like. I will not like my husband to be there in a way because he might not be able to stand there and watch me going through all that pain.

As much as i would love for him to be there.. I am deff going to say I don't want him there. When i am shouting and he's saying.. Sorry hunnie. Being the person that i am, the only thing i will be thinking is... NA You PUT ME FOR THIS RUBBISH OOO... IF You DON'T GET UR ASS OUT OF THIS ROOM AND SHUT UR DIRTY MOUTH, I WILL KILL You!!!! Infact it won't be funny!. I don't want to see him in there.. let him stay the fxck outside and Pray!. What will be his job?? to make me mad at him?? Or to annoy me more by saying, "push" after a bunch of doctors are saying it and the baby ain't coming easy? Or is his job to watch and say... Hunnie, you can do this?? WTF can i do?? Kill him ehh? Hell yes i will kill him! I am serious, i really wouldn't want my husband in the labor room with me.. because no matter how much i love him, i will be mad at him at that moment. Then when the baby is out.. ehen, he can come in and say "u did it hunnie". And i'll laugh and be happy he gave me my baby. Anyways.. maybe my tots will change as i grow. Or on that day. But presently thinking... I don't want him there. @ Casper... that's some funy rubbish.

Hmmmmmmmm. If they are all females in the ward. No problem I'll stay outside but if a man is going in...Hell No. No man go look my wife yansh (for free). I'm a qualified doctor as well.
As for the pains. I'm indifferent to that. Na 50-50 because my own pain too dey come. Abi na who go buy food, feeding botle, pay school fees etc. Just Kidding.
I'll love to be there when my wife is giving birth. I'll be able to appreciate her d more. Lets go through it together.

Hi,interesting topic indeed. I guess it all depends on the relationship between husband and wife, and the circumstances of the labour.BUt if the guy knows he cannot withstand the sight of blood,ABEG keep off.We don't want a guy fainting while the wife is pushing! I was there when my wife had a too early labour(24weeks)-the baby did not make it,I was there to make sure my wife was going to make it! Am glad I was there. The next time,I was there too, but,I had to go attend to a patient(yes am a doctor too),and by the time I got back, the baby was out,I was glad to have been there with her,no matter how short the duration. If one can be there,I believe one should, that way,you will appreciate your wife better, your love for each will be stronger, and your attachment to the baby will be great! I have known guys who are out drinking with their friends or with other ladies while there wives were in labour-without adequate financial, material and emotional support-such should hang!

I was there when my son was born. The most intense moment in my life. The joy you feel when you can wash your baby for the first time Unfortunately, I couldn't be there for my daughter as my wife underwent a section. I would advise all men to be there if at all possible.

itz kind of embarrasing , if u know what i mean embarrasing ke? what is he seeing that he has not seen before? the head of the baby or you? sure, u bet i'm going to be in there all the way, u're not likely to look down on her after one or two experiences like that. besides it brings a special kind of bond. though from experience most women end up feeling lousy and the last person they want to see is their husband during and after delivery lol saw that when my aunt had her first baby, she won't even look my uncle in the face, poor guy and he kept whispering sweet nothings in her ear. i managed to keep myself from laughing. was it his fault? no be you want pickin? me sha i will be there, i don't trust all male gynes, i shall be there to protect my flesh and blood o!

No hospital will allow you in to a labour room with your wife in Nigeria but it is being practiced overseas. And we have reason for that which I believe is okay.

i have never dated a nigeria guy. so you telling me that there is no nigerian guy that doesn't want to adopt a child, they all want their wife to give birth. i said maybe i will change my mind later in the future but now i can see my self in the labor room.

The reactions of the female in the house should give you some gist about the reason why Govt. owned hospital will never allow you in to labour room.
Besides, at times it might not be only your wife labouring at that moment. So will you go there and look at another man's wife naked? If you were to be, will you agree to that?

This is sexist B*llsh*t, pure and simple. Besides, at times it might not be only your wife labouring at that moment.
This could be a valid reason. There are no separate rooms for the women in labour? So will you go there and look at another man's wife naked? If you were to be, will you agree to that?
As if you'd be interested in other women in labour at that time.... Anyway, just a sidenote. recently, there's been a craze on Belgian TV where the whole process of expecting a child upto labour and birth is shown in full vivid colour on TV. These programmes are immensely popular. I personally think that the birth of your child is something too private for the world to see.

There may not be separate rooms for women in labour...there are not enough space on earth to allow separate rooms for all women in labour but sure there are partitions...both in Nigeria and everywhere else in the world...so the argument is still not valid...but hey..let the men make the request, or better still the women.... i have never witnessed the request turned down before...both in Nigeria and abroad.
