I am a graduate of B.Sc. Accounting with 3rd class but currently seriously looking for job openings to this specification. I have 2 years experience currently, I have my (NIM) and computer skills qualifications in Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Maths basics. Please kindly assist.

Hi Dare, I will like to assume I am in your shoes so I will tell you what I will do.
1 if I still have age on my side and I can afford it honestly I will go back to school through D E with that result and come out with a competitive result in three years time.
2 If age is not on my side I will forget about looking for job opening and start something that can generate money for me to keep body and soul together.
The truth is no matter how good you are, with a 3rd class degrees in Nigeria no organisation will give you the chance to prove your worth.
In fact I know people with such grades plus ICAN yet they are not employed because of the 3rd class.
However, 3rd class degree should not be a discouragement to you. I'm sure you know some successful people in Nigeria today who made a 3rd in school. It all depends on your determination and attitude to the situation at hand.

Hello dear,
I understand that you have a 3rd class. Now the question is do you want to pursuse a career in your area of study? if yes you have to proceed to get a proffessional certification like ICAN. With this certification and your 2yrs experinece, you can match for any job opening in your field.
Secondly, if you do not want to pursuse a career in your area of study, you have to go ahead and do a Masters degree in that field you desire.
Doing a Masters automatically brings you to the level of 2:1 grade says a Human resources specialist.

It takes the grace of GOD.
We have graduates with 1st class and 2:1 roaming about the street.
Let me tell u,I have a friend with Pass and with it, he has good job even he never apply for a day,for job.This fellow am talking about got 2 jobs at a time with a nice pay,infact he was dumbfounded,because these jobs are okay.
@bhnl don't loose hope, go for ICAN and still be on the lookout .You might get a job that u will never expected.

@poster u need to ask yourself wether accounting is a fireld u want to pursue;if it is then u need to develop yourself professionally: take an extra degree/postgraduate degree, a certification or a certificate in accounting with a recognized professional body. Dont think your NIM is somthing to hold-on to(many people also have that  ) u need to have something to stand u out when u apply for jobs:be it a certificate with a professional body or experience( and most times,simply God's favor). Pray for favour my dear. You will surely get a job. Meanwhile enrole for ICAN or ACCA but if you are deficient academically or really don't want to pursue a career in Accounting, then look for a small business to start. The key thing is, don't relent, make sure you are striving hard to make head- way, life is full challenges. Good luck!

@poster, i really understand your situation but would like to tell u that u can get a good job with your 3rd class degree. i also graduated with a third class degree in accounting and did not have hope of getting a job but i held on to God and prayed . i also began to see myself doing the kind of job i desire.  i daydreamed about the job and also step out by distributing my CV everywhere and make sure i tell everyone i met that am looking for a job. luckily for me God sent me an helper of destiny (a woman) who decided to help me and thats how i got exactly what i av always dreamed of a good job in a white dominated company here in Kano where i served. God helped me and singled me out am happy and am planning to go for my pgd this year. would like u to put your trust in God and don't look down on yourself. my boss believes in me because i put in my best at work and this is just the beginning , because am even believing God for a much better job in future. i graduated with a 3rd and i was also thinking the way you are now but i placed my trust in GOD and today i work in a good logistics company here in lagos and i have a brighter future because i know that the GOD that did this for me is still taking me higher, believe in GOD and whatever you desire shall be your.
Don't listen to people, because they will try everything possible to discorage you always lookup.

Hey Dear,
3rd class is not all that bad but it's just that the competiting society we found ourselves made it look horrible and irrelevant. You still have alot opportunity to get into the normal track.
All you have to do now is to build a richer CV, You can go for a Master degree in a related course like say Economics, Obtain a certificate in Computer (Basics Applications) or you can as well go further, Go for a language course like say FRENCH language. also ICAN, ACCA would help you alot.
With prayers/hardworking, All these would get you back on track and you would stand a better chances of getteing a very lucrative job even more than some of the 2.1, 2.2 holders.

you are not at any 'disadvantage' because of your 3rd Class degree. It is unfortunate that Nigeria lays more emphasy on 'degree' and NOT innate ability or talent. From your posting, i perceive you are an ambitious and bright fellow. You are not the first 3rd class graduate that will emerge from this part of the world. You have some ingenuinety which the Nigerians school system does not appreciate. It could be one of the reasons why you came out with 3rd class. The Nigerian school system did the same thing to Professor Wole Shoyinka. They gave him 3rd class but he went ahead to nurture his Innate passion and Interest in creative writing. That creativity was condenmed by his Lecturers at UI. but the same creativity of his landed him in the club on Nobel Laurete holders since 1986. The first in Africa.
Ubong Essien is another model i want to share with you who came out with a 3rd class degree at Unilorin. No one employed him of course because you will never find any advert which list 3rd class degree as qualification for employment. He abandoned his certificate and followed his Interest And Passion. The result? Do Professional exams . Some companies recruit 3rd class with professional certificates.
Actually i don't know with Accounting but when it comes to IT World
Its your professional exams they look fitst before checking you on your first degree.If people without degree can work with professional exam certificate.Nothing do you be that.

If you have that 1,Your level pass 2.1 wey no get backup because that what someone i know did and he works with vertiva i think
No dull yourself at all.
Bsides what the point of going back to school(in Nigeria sha ) when 2.1s ans 2.2s don't even have jobs.
The only thing you have to think about is how to be ahead of them even with your 3rd class.
Make research on that CFA but i am not sure if they do it in Naija sha

I would first like to advice people who find themselves in this guys shoes ; If you are on a 3rd class in your final year in the University,take extra semesters ! It's better to waste 1 year,than waste your whole future. Some Universities do not allow students take extra semesters,so the best bet is not to submit your project,you automatically get an extra year for not submitting,you can use this extra semester to borrow courses to boost your CGPA, the difference between an a 3rd class and a 2:2 is not much.

The best bet is to take an Msc or an MBA. It might be hard to enter into an MBA with your third class,so take an Msc in Marketing / Management or try MBA at the University you graduated from. Don't waste your time with all these professional courses that are not really relevant,and employers might not care about.
There is hope for you big time.

And I know people who have a 3rd class,who without any professional certificates have great jobs,but that doesn't help our poster does it ? My point is doing a Prof course for a 2/3 years while still jobless won't help him,it also limits him to the field in which he did the course, and it won't erase his 3rd class, but an Msc / MBA which is also a University qualification would better his educational status. |

My guy! Do you know the Bible says about Faith? If u don't, check them out and try imagine how u can relate all the great things He created in the Whole world to your 'over-minor' situation. My friend, u are are equal as those having a 1st class if you can stand up on your feet!! I advise you to do a professional course or courses in IT. IT people are usually employed based on their profesional qualif. instead of bsc. You will make it as easily as 2.1, 2.2, or 1st class do in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth!! amen

i have a third class in applied biochemistry. i am also a satellite t.v installer. and on the 11th of next month, by the special grace of God, i'll be done with youth service. can i get any meaningful job with this class of degree? or should i stick to my satellite t.v installation skill, which my folks consider rather demeaning as a graduate? maybe i should travel out of the country, which am considering seriously. what are my chances? i need your candid advice?

God made u to have a 3rd class for a reason and that is to bring out the best in u, belif in yourself know what u really want and pray to God for help.
Take any of the advice u believe wolud work for u from this thread and the sky will be your lunching pad. u are born to be great.
Isn't is worse to grad with pass as an HND holder.
My dear your case is not the worse, if the worse case ar making it then u can!
