he got it for that year's token black award, he did deserve it tho, he s been a good actor but played the same roles, so i think its befitting the gave him when he played something different

if scorsece ends up without an oscar this year then he should just bow out gracefully. i mean, this guy has done everything, from classics to action, even to animation, yet no recognition. and to think eastwood won for million dollar baby!!!!

if they ever want to recognise him, now is the time. i mean, the departed is just too good and it clearly deserves an award

That's ridiculous.  Actors don't work to get awards, they work to get money just like you and I!

The only recognition an actor needs, apart from money in his bank account, is recognition from movie fans. Like you!

@seun
actors are just like footballers. yes, fans like their works but the icing on the cake is when they are appreciated by the authority over their art. Fifa for footballers and in this case, the awards committe.
every movie actor or director, no matter how large a fan base he has, would feel incomplete without at least an oscar in his shelf, even if he has all the money he needs.

martin is long over due for this award.

Hehe, that's just hype.  An oscar is only as valuable as the money it puts in one's bank account.  I'm a little bit pissed off because the Oscar is nothing special - just a popularity poll - yet it gets so much free publicity.

Justkumi
you are right after all is said and done, the ultimate prize is the oscar for those actors. Money first then the coveted award, or should i say the award first because once you strike gold with on of those little men, you can command any amount you wish.
Seun (m)

This is a gross exaggeration.  A big star will command a lot of money, but not any amount.  Many big stars don't have Oscars.  Adam Sandler doesn't have an oscar, but he earns a lot and performs consistently in the box office.   If an actor genuinely believes that an oscar is his ultimate reward, such an actor is simply a victim of hype.  The oscar award is just another over-hyped popularity poll.  It's 99% hype and 1% no-big-deal.  Nairaland polls are better!

@ seun
The hype is what gives it the craze movie people crave for.
years of work in movies and an oscar just completes your career. . . .

but there are a whole lotta stars without oscars. . . Grin

@eurphoria
well said. the award is very important. it even hypes your resume and u surely would be a sort after for movie roles. producers even use u to sell their movies.
see cinderella man, russell crowe and renne zellwegger. the preview clearly displyed. . academy award winning actor and academy award winning actress Grin
