I am a calabar princess from Royal house of calabar, married to an Igbo man.

Basically,I do not know why the Igbos are always trying to show themselve up, they are very strict about strangers in their community, they do not easily accept other tribes as a matter of fact. they will hate you  for not being igbo, they are confusionist, who do not even like themselves, they will destroy this wounderful thing the forefathers have built.
I strongly agree with the Obong to please keep them where they belong, he was very kind to allow them in the Obongs councel, my great grand father and grand father who were the Obongs would turn in their grave to see this happen but it has happened and the Igbos should be grateful for that. They will never allow a chief that is not igbo to be recognised how much be a member of the Ezes council. Huh

95% of nigerians are simply retarded. Otherwise, whats the use of having the obas, emirs, ezes, obong etc if nothing good has come out of these lazy people and their offices. These are the same people who cause and distribute arms during tribal wars.

Nobody will be paying any attention to all these lazy and corrupt tittle holders if the our leaders have been doing their work effectively.

Useless culture. Angry

Ignorant ass. Please tell me if Igbos hate calabar people. The last time I checked Igbos have always strived to maintain a cordial relationship with its neighbors including Efik/Ibibios. We do not dispute the Ibibio presence in Arochukwu and I am part Aro and have Ibibio roots so I think I have an idea of what I am talking about. Nonsense. How dare u come here to spill your unproven lies about a whole ethnic group but claim you are married to one. Guess what if Igbos are that bad why the hell are you still married one? What about your half Ibibio/ Igbo children. I'm sure they will grow up to be wicked and evil with all that Igbo blood flowing through their veins.

The only thing that will make anyone get so rattled up over such a silly issue is insecurity. I am not here to say that they should be allowed to have their Eze IGBO or not but how does that affect your Calabar people? People always want to find a way to express their hatred for another ethnic group by making a no issue an issue. I lived in Enugu and I know many non Igbos that lived there. Not once did I hear or see Igbos making their lives hell. I know some Efik/Ibibio folks that lived there and they speak fluent Igbo. What are u blabbing about? I am Igbo myself and I don't hate other Igbos. I even communicate and try to learn different Igbo dialects.

Oron, Annang, Efik, Ibibio are literally the same people with dialectical differences but are u guys united? HECK NO. The loss of Bakassi and the silence from all these groups is enough sign that when it comes to division u got work to do so go fix that before you come here casting aspersions on a people who have never committed any crime, genocide against your people.  Their are non Igbos appointed in many state positions with large Igbo population. IF Igbos are unaccommodating I don't think that will happen. Igbos and Ibibios have always had a good relationship. Even during the Aba women's riot in 1929 Ibibio women joined Igbo women in the struggle. In Biafra Ibibios and Efiks fought gallantly on the Biafra side.

Don't generalize.

You have not answered the main querry why an Igbo business man should coronate himself as the Eze Ndi Igbo when they already have an Igbo Union that is recognised by the State Government for the purpose of representing the Igbo's in Cross River ? Ther person in question is a member of the Obong of Calabar's council of chiefs and is trying to undermine his authority.

The issue of whether Ibibio/Efik/Annang are united is not the issue. At least they don't operate the caste system. Your leaders should not have surrendered the Biafran war and left the Calabar man to 'carry the can'.

The last Igbo clown who tried that Ezi Ndi Igbo stuff in Cross River was kicked out of Ikom and his bread factory was burned down. He was given a proverb, that "you dont sit down on top of a kola-nut tree to eat kola-nut".(you simply look for a quiet place to eat it, twit).

@poster

This is utter rubbish and display of foolish cultural chest beat. The Obong of Calaber has no administrative authority in Calabar. Even the local government chairman wields more authority than Obong of Calaber. If the governor does not recognize Obong, the position is as good as that of headmaster. The position of Obong is mere ceremonial and cultural relics. The so-called Eze Ndigbo in Calaber does not mean anything beyond confines of Calabar city.

How silly.
Eze ndi Igbo means king of the Igbos.
Hausa have their kings within their communities in Aba,Owerri,Enugu and Umuahia
Yorubas have theirs in Igboland
There are so called Igbo kings amongst the Igbo communities in Yorubaland.
Why then are Calabar fearful of Igbos having someone they designate as some form of leader and spokesman in Calabar
Are you folks that insecure?

This Eze kingship thingy seems like a relatively recent thing, as far as I know. In some areas what they have, or used to have, is a community leader who also acts as an unofficial representative for his/her community, and sometimes these leaders are given titles by and from the host community, in recognition of their contributions and goodwill.

Thats the one I know.

However, things may have changed after the civil war, or else different areas have different laws about such matters.

My dear how old are you, this one you sabi pre war modalities of Ezeship? Shocked Shocked Shocked
The eze thing is really nothing.
You remember sometime ago when Igbo's were being kidnapped for ransom in some Yoruba town, some "yoruba King" in Enugu went on record and  spoke out and condemned the act happening in his home area .
These people are not paid, they are not there to cause trouble.
they are mere spokesmen for their people.
Just like every Igbo town in the USA have associations, they are not looking to overthrow the US govt.
I doubt if the Alafin of Oyo  or Ooni of Ife is concerned by the "igbo kings" without  palaces in their neighborhoods.
If those recognised titled men don't even wield much powers as they did perhaps in pre colonial times, what could some puny Igbo kings do?
The obong should chill
What powers does he even have?

this person you're calling king, may only be the leader or Yoruba representative in his community. King can mean different things to different people and in different contexts. If he's the Oba only of people and not traditional lands, then his "Obaship" doesnt extend beyond the Yoruba people in Enugu. He's supposed to be a kind of ombudsman between his people and their hosts when necessary. Little more than that. He may not even be needed for that function sef but simply asked to oversee matters of welfare and suchlike.

that's exactly what it is, a go between and a local "leader" per se
(similar to Al sharpton in the USA, for blacks if you will)
The term king is used loosely.
Igbos didn't really have kings, they've always had a democracy and not a monarchy with the exception of Aro and one other place

Seriously, I don't think it's right for anyone to have a king. We can have laws guiding our morals but what are kings for? However, having an Igbo king in another man's land is totally disrespecting. I know, I know , they have it in Lagos but it's only a celebrity postition. Oba of Eko have spiritual roles he plays not political at all. Only corrupt kings play politics . I don't know about Igbos but in Yoruba land, kings are not selected or elected, they are chosen by the God of Prophecy and Divination(Ifa). So the Eze thing in Lagos is a celebrity role to promote more unity amongst the people and also make the Igbos feel at home and guided in Lagos which is working if you ask me.

It's just a title. However, if the king doesn't approve of it, it shouldn't happen. If the Oba of Lagos said no to Eze thing in Lagos, it won't happen. But Igbo people obey the traditional rules in Lagos especially in areas where the traditional ruleS applies which is few. If the Eze thing will mean Igbos won't obey the traditional laws of the place, then it will be a problem but that is not the case so let them be. ONE 9JA!!

I do not consider my post disrespectful to the so-called Obong of Calaber. It is not gainsaying to write that I played on a palace corridor. The position of the Obong is mere traditional and cultural symbol. What authority does the Obong command in Calaber? He has no standing army or police. He can not influence a DPO make any arrest. The only influence available to him comes in the night and such rubbish could be met with equally and deadly force.

Who let  this lunatic monkey out of the cage? Since you and your forbearers surprisingly became the beneficiaries of the abandon property in Rivers State, every issue appears to you as a land and property grabbing. The issue about Calaber is a royal matter and if you were given several options to get it right, you will still flunk it. Please get back into holding cage.
