DSTV has more than 100 channels.  HiTV cannot possible have all of them at inception, not to talk of charging so much less than DSTV.  How will they recover their investment in content and technology?  It's not possible.

Your "reliable source" is just trying to market the service to you.  You should know that marketers lie all the time.

Today we're stealing from DSTV, tommorrow it may be SeunTV.  If something is wrong, then one must speak against it.  However, I have a vested interest in this discussion.  I'm an indirect DSTV subscriber.  This doesn't pay me.

Although, HITV is not a satellite television station, it is a wireless digital terrestrial platform that has no limit on the channels that it can broadcast. The technology can be used for television and internet.

It will start with 24 channels. The channel will include CNN, BBC World, LBC International, Arjazera, God Africa, MTV Base, Fox Sports, E and Nickelodeon. There are also specially created channels like Hi-Sports, Hi-Ovation, Hi-Nolly, Nigezie, Hi-KIDS, Hi-Mix and Hi-Biz.

Hy peeps,
lets hope this HITV delivers sumtin similar to the DSTV package( Mnet, supersport, africa magic, series and the rest), thats only when i can believe that they (HiTV) are really offering satellite Tv at a lower rate. august will come and go and we shall see. Glo came into the market and is supposed to crash prices but the three of them had closely knitted rates. DSTV started off with low rates then,

Truly crappy news indeed if this is an 'Exclusive' license. Loads of Nigerians like myself have DSTV, and yanking EPL from out bouquet of channels ain't fun at all.

I've decided not to blame HiTV for getting the exclusive license because if they did not, someone else would have.

Why are you guys all fretting? We make so much noise about everylittle development in Nigeria as if we don't already know where it's headed to. Trend Tv cam with all the promises and then lost out and started crying foul play. That only tells you they never carried out a feasibility stidy of the business they were about to invest their life savings.
As far as i am concerned, DSTV were only doing business. They are smarter than the Nigerian competitors and that makes it look like they are a monopoly. When you crowd out your competitor, you definately will look like a monopoly. I think the question is to define what monopoly is.

As they add more channels, their expenses will grow and they'll have to increase the price.  It's inevitable.

If they are able to acquire the same number of channels as DSTV, then they will probably have to charge the same.

I donnot trust this Hitv guy Toyin Subair.I think He is just another hungry Nigeria who is a traitor and trying to kill other people business instead of using his own brains. If i can remember clearly, this guy was working for DSTV,he then stole all their trade secrets and used the corrupt Government(Week) to be precise to his advantage to set up this suspect company called Hitv.I will only encourage and respect guys that use their own brains, own ideas to create progressive service to the people instead of a skimmer with no integrity trying to feed his own selfish stomach all in the name of breaking monopoly my foot.Nigerians wake up, this guy has not delivered anything.I have payed him and yet still longing for my decoder weeks after he supposedly launched.I love competition, its good for the economy but I will not tolerate backlashing of other pples sweat instead of focussing on the his own project.Toyin, Nweke suspect!!!Nigerians are watching closely.

I think so too, Jamie, You have to be a DSTV staff or something really close to that.
I don't think the development is worth all the hullabaloo, at least not until we have seen that HiTV has got other quality channels like discovery, history, reality, national geograpghic channel.e.t.c and they are also able to keep the subscription fee very low, Then we can shout hurray!!!
Please No monopoly has been broken, it has only been transferred from DSTV to HITV!Chikena
