This is in reference to the publication of the Vanguard where it was reported that a staunch Arsenal fan was stabbed after the match against Bolton see here http://www.vanguardngr.com/articles/2002/sports/february07/02022007/sp102022007.htmlThis SOS call goes out to all Gunners and other lovers of the beautiful game alike to rally round the family of Dodiki Anjorin so as to support them in this trying period of their lives Its so sad that fanaticism could be so flagrantly displayed right here in this great country of ours where its been widely accepted that Soccer is the major rallying point for national unity Moves have been made by the editorial board of Vanguard to get donations for this soccer lover but maybe just maybe we soccer lovers on NAIRALAND AND BEYOND CAN JUST PLAY A PART IN SUPPORTING THIS FAMILY AS THEY WOULD NEED OUR HELP,
REMEMBER HE WHO YOU CAN HELP, IS ACTUALLY YOUR NEIGHBOURSUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOME AS TO HOW WE CAN RENDER OUR ASSISTANCE BUT RIGHT NOW MAYBE WE SHOULD ALLOW THE HONORABLES IN THE HOUSE LIKE AKOLAWOLE AND SIR KAY RELEASE THEIR ACCOUNT NOS SO THAT WE COULD DONATE THE TOKEN WE CAN AFFORD TO THIS HONORABLE CAUSEGOD BLESS AS YOU HARKEN TO THIS CALL

All,
Was able to get through to the Sports Editor of Vanguard Newspaper (Mr. Onochie. Cellphone N0. 08056570421) on phone this afternoon. Officials of ARSENAL Naija Supporters' Club were also linked up with him by me.
We have all agreed to make donations to Dodiki Anjonrin, in order to assist with the medical expenses. Mr Onochie linked us up with the Health Editor, who would eventually contact the family members of Mr Anjonrin, to meet with the Supporters' Club officials, at Vanguard Newspapers office, by 12noon next Tuesday, 6th February, to hand over what the club deem fit to be given to our fellow GUNNER.
We did not bother to ask how much the medical bill is or how much is required for the whole thing, but we felt that since it's his love for the ARSENAL that earned him this trauma, even if we give his family 1 million naira, it's not too much.
Whatever you think is OK for the family to take care of him, let's not hesitate to do so please.
We have to decide who to get the money to and how NAIRALANDERS could be well represented when donating our own portion to the family.
Remember, this is not just for ARSENAL fans alone, it's a noble cause for all.
It can happen to anybody.
Many thanks

About how much in total is to be raised, and what's it going to be used for specifically?

@ Seun,
It's for the guy's medical treatment
@ justkunmi,
If we all agree to raise money to help with the medical bill, then we can now agree on how to raise the money, who to pay to (or if there's someone to represent us all, it may be paid into his/her account).
Then we all on this thread agree on when to visit Vanguard Newspapers office, with Mr Anjonrin's family for the donation. We can choose members to represent us.
Mr Anjonrin's picture, with that of the knife used to stab him, the position of the knife in his skull, when the knife was removed is also there in Page 14 of today's Vanguard.

@ Seun,
Sorry, we are not specific on how much we are raising for his medical bill. Just like myself and the officials of ARSENAL Naija Supporters' Club did not specify any amount.
No amount is too much to take care of his medical bill or upkeep even after he's dicharged from the hospital

Well, just like i suggested earlier we may need to get the account nos of the elderly honorables among us to facilitate our raising the money between now and then,
Am thinking if we as Nairalanders can donate a minimum of N1,000.00 and we are able to donate to the family a sum, from at least N50-100K then we would have contributed our little quota to the society in discouraging Fanaticism in Soccer, doing this also bolsters the image of the sports section, as the society at large would be interested in our activities
P.S the meeeting is Tuesday not monday @bolaoni we need to yarn o

@Seun Thanks for your concern, maybe you could help put this thread on the homepage, like you rightly postulated its wiser to allow the donations go through the newspaper @All I just spoke to Sir Kay who has been liasing with Sports editor of The Vanguard, the purpose of which was to get him to release his account no for the purpose of collection of our donations, which he understably declined for security purposes and promised to open a seperate one for this purpose and give us the account details The consideration now is that of time; if they will be meeting with the family on Tuesday, we might however extend the date of presentation of our token till maybe Thursday to eliminate the issue of short-time constraint, then we can proceed alongside NAIJA ARSENAL FANS to do same, but please note this is a NAIRALAND THING AND NOT A CLUB THING

I never knew you are Arsenal to the blood like this yet you are such a good football fan.
@Everyone
We don't actually need the guy's account.
Can SirKay or Seun volunteer one bank account for us to pay then pass it over to the said editor.
Cheers.

Pardon me for being the contrarian here but I have a totally different perspective
Of all the people who are going through hell trying to meet their hospital bills in Nigeria, this fella is one person who does not deserve my full sympathy.
We do not know the full facts sorrounding the case, but the little we know from the victims side discloses that he was involved in a fight regarding their respective football allegiances which resulted in the victim being stabbed.
On a purely human level,u have to feel sympathy for anyone who suffers a serious health setback whatever the circumstances. There are many Nigerians who face imminent death due to their inability to pay for their treatment
However, the circumstances of this case as we know it(from the victims' perspective I must add) suggest that this particular Nigerian,is not one who deserves a helping hand compared to all the people in similar circumstances.
I can't help but notice the element of culpability in the victim's predicament.I have been on this forum for 8 months and not once have I come across a charity appeal for any Nigerian.Of all the people in need in Nigeria,I do not see this particular person as uniquely deserving of our help.
I don't know whether its his culpability or the sheer pointlessness of the source of their fight ,football, that ticks me off.
Money is a scarce commodity and should be given with great care to the most deserving There are far more worthy cases we can do something about where the victim was not in any way culpable for his/her predicament. This one,am afraid is not one of them

Kituan
you see what i mean? when i was talking about people supporting their home teams in the footie section you thought i was joking.
Fancy getting stabbed for a team thousands of miles away, not even a local Nigerian team. Atleast if you going to engage is fisty cuffs all in the name of footie make sure the team is your home(as in your locality) team. All these fake supporters, wanting to be cool. I guarantee if you told that story to a londoner they would laff their asses off at the sheer stupidity. Imagine a Brit supporting Galatasary for instance and this happened, he would be laughed from now till eternity.
This is my take on it, well i will say a lickle prayer for him.

@All, let it be reiterated that its not a must for u to drop a penny 4 this cause, and if you feel otherwise maybe you would do well to ignore this call rather than castigate the victim for his unbridled passion for the game even if he might have done a thing or two wrong getting into a fight, but lets not get it twisted, its d bestiality behind the act that has provoked the publication and at large the SOS call and that of the NaijaArsenal fans. Yet let us remember it could have been anybody!!

A lot seems to have happened since my last visit here @ 4play, it is true that we haven't being involved in any humanitarian task since NL was established, but is it ever too late to begin a noble cause? I don't think SO. This guy may be an enemy for all I care but what you need to look at is not the guy but the efforts of fellow Nairalanders to help him out. You never can tell, this could lead on to GREATER things for us all. The fact that someone has thought of this cause is something worthy of applause and our support. I don't like these gooners for anything but I am thrilled by the efforts of Kitty Boi and Sir Kay so I want to pay my widow's mith in this cause @ Euphoria, do I have anything to say to you? I will rather I am sure nobody is being forced to put in anything into this so those who feel indifferent shouldn't bother to discourage those who want to do something. @kitty, thanks for the late night World Press Conference. It was great talking to ya.

Well there really isn't much to say here, as you guys have practically covered all issues that surround this case (Positive and Negative) and it was good that everyone is/was allowed to express their opinions (although some opinions where ignorant to say the least) Anyway guys just keep us informed on all we need to know, so that those that want to contribute what ever they have can do so. And 4play i see your point, i guess its stuff like this that just lets us see how fickle life can be, i would suggest that this could be a watershed for Nairaland sports forum members, in that we could once in a while get together and donate to some charities, which would address the issue 4play was talking about. Am sure as we go on, we will get things right. Hopefully this tragic situation will be the begining of something cool and lovely Cheers to you guys (Everyone Except ) KITUAN You owe me an explaination oh!! GOONER 89

@ Akolawole,
I am o, but maturity plays the major role.
Football breeds unity and friendship, not enmity brother. We should all show care, love and concern for each other, despite the fact that we do throw banters at each other sometimes.
That's just the fun of it.
@ kit,
Thanks for standing in for me, moreso that I've been disturbing you since yesterday afternoon. Sure you understand why sha? You have been doing a great job, keep it up boy.
You deserve an award for this!
@ ALL,
We have never had anything like this done here before, but this to me, is an eye opener. I believe it's a cause worthy of acting on, not only for the guy in queston now, but others when the need arises. Our being human matters a lot, let's put sentiments apart please.
I'ld be glad if it's a thing we get to do whenever we are called upon to. Agreed money isn't easy to come by, but sacrifices like this counts.
Please, this is not an ARSENAL thing, but NAIRALAND's. If we agree to contribute to this cause, let's work things out before next Thursday.
Remember what the widow woman in the Bible gained, after giving out her last meal to Elijah.
