I really struggle to say who is the better of the two really.
But I would have to go for Kevin Costner because he has the best performances in Dances with Wolves and JFK.
Cage has more overall good films becuase kevin appears in a lot of turkeys.
But these two are not anywhere near the best actors out there.

Words and Opposite.
Nicolas Cage is a A' list actor who draws box office with millions while Kevin Costner in the other hand is a box office slop. The only Kevin movie that I believe really tried in Box office is Bodyguard (with Whitney) and Robinhood. Btw, Kevin has finished writing Bodyguard 2 and Jessica Simpson is sure in talk to work with him.
Even at the moment Dakota Fanning controls box office than Kevin Costner.
What determined a good actor is how well, their appearances will draw people to the movie and make sales. Thats why you see someone like Desmond Elliot in every dan movie in Nigeria. In a re-occuring roles.

I have to disagree 100% with this. Box Office does not mean the main star is a good actor. The box office for all the new Star War movies was massive but the acting was really poor! Arnold has many more box office receipts than Morgan Freeman but you cannot in a million years say that Arnold is a better actor. Box Office earnings are down to many factors and not just if the main guy is a good actor. |

2. Star Wars will make money no matter who is in it. How many movie is like Star Wars? Even Harry Potter book sales alone makes money than any well organized movies shown in cinema.
You are right on the rest of your comment.
Btw, How many times Morgan Freeman plays a center piece of story? How many times have you heard people saying I'm going to watch a movie because its Morgan Freeman movie (may be in UK). Morgan as always playing support to a center figure.

Being an actor myself I have a bit of insight and I am only disagreeing with the statement that implies being able to draw a crowd to a movie is the sign of a good actor. All your points only support my point. maybe what you should have said is What determined a good actor STAR is how well, their appearances will draw people to the movie and make sales.
a good actor does not neccesaryily mean a good star. I hope you get my drift. |

Nicolas Cage for Face Off with John Travolta, he is a good actor and should be compared to people like John Travolta.
Kevin Costnar, also good with romantic bodyguard, and so on, but i think nicolas is an action star and Kevin fits more with the Drama, romance staff

nicholas cage rocks. kevin is ok but he is kindda cut out for deeply intense and dark characters. While Nick cage can take on any character anyday anytime. Go Nick.You rock my world.    |

mayne, really its hard to choose between bot of them and the author has really hit a nerve here because his mentioning my 2 best actors there, before i could choose i had to ask my whole family in a vote, this is how it went:
my dad:he goes for cage, thinks kevin acts too many mysteriois parts
my mom:goes for kevin, she loves the bodyguard
my sis:goes for kevin too, loves the untouchables and robin hood
i have to go for kevin, but i admit that cage is banging too

Cage is TERRIBLE. I can't stand his movies. No, really. I can't. Costner on the other hand IS a real man. He's hot for his age. He's a great actor. I don't find Cage attractive, I don't even think he's a good actor even though 10000 billion people disagree with me.
