What Is Your Favourite Tv Ad
« on: February 14, 2007, 10:49 AM »

What do you all think of TV ads these days.  It seems like a lot of foreign stuff is being used?  Does that mean Nigerian ads are not good enough?  What ads do you like and which ones do you hate?

Vicks Blue ads,
Vicks lemon plus ad,
FCMB ad,
MTN Love ads (esp the one where the husband tells his wife he's working late and she sends her picture),
Lux ads,
Lucozade Boost cheetah ad,
Guinness ads,
Indomie ads,

I hate ones of poor quality and lack of concept like Binatone, Dansa fruit juice copied Hollandia's concept of a classroom ad, most bank ads where they copied Ecobank's singing choir, Intercontinental bank ad and Dabur ad. There are many but for now, i can't remember.

Nigerian ad practitioners are yet to come to that age where they will use local concept or african ideas to conceptualize their adverts. That's why you'll hardly hear of a Naija ad winning any Cannes film award or any other international award. The reason for this as well is that we are copying the western style when we should be doing our own in order to be original. I say this because i am an advertising specialist under mass comm. so i know what i'm talking about. Our advert agencies are trying but they need to be original and the picture and sound quality needs to be high.
