Salt, What A Taste?
« on: February 16, 2007, 10:32 AM »

Believers play a key role on earth. Jesus calls them the ‘salt of the earth.’ By implication, believers are to the world what salt is to food. The first thing you notice about salt is its colour. It is white. That reminds the believer of the need to live a life of righteousness daily.

‘And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints’ (Rev 19:Cool. The moment you dabble in questionable things, you begin to lose your salty taste. Your reputation will be at stake. It is much easier to lose a good reputation than to retain it. People will say you were pretending, hence you could not sustain the faith.

‘Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking smell: so doth a little folly, him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour’ (Eccles 10:1).

Another attribute of salt is that is has taste. Without salt, the soup or stew will be tasteless. The world without believers in Christ is tasteless and hopeless. As a child of God you should add colour, hope and meaning to the lives of those around you. How much of this do you do? Salt is also used for preservation. For instance, if meat is salted, it is lasts longer. As a true believer in Christ, God’s protection upon your life goes beyond you to affect others around you positively.

For instance, where someone was intended to have an accident, by virtue of your presence in that bus, the accident could be prevented. The lives of those in the bus could be spared. Members of your family could be spared, just as Lot and his family were spared death because of Abraham. Dear believer in Christ, how does your salt taste today? Or have you lost your taste, purity and strength? Repent now and resolve to live nothing short of being the ‘salt of the earth.’
