@Donzman, what else is there apart from independence day? egungun festival? lmao There's Argungu festival in Northern Nigeria, New Yam Festival in Igboland,Igue Festival (minus the human sacrifice part) in Benin KingdomLots of them in Nigeria to begin with, it's Black History Month, you should be learning about those instead of how some guy was the first black person to fly a plane.

@ donzman, why do you keep ignoring her questions?? WHy is it soo hard to celebrate black history month but you can celebrate Thanksgiving?? Or do you want to tell me you don't wish people "happy Thanksgiving" and eat turkey like others on thanksgiving day?? Please say so if you dnt. And even if you don't do this. . . There are soo many things that you do that I (We) don't know about, and those things could be linked (in the distorted manner that you seem to love to do things) To African Americans. Would you like it if we then tell you that, "because African Americans do it, you shouldn't do it"? Besides this isnt even about segragation or anything like that. It's just a BLack history month. Black, not African American, not egungun. Just BLACK, every black person that wishes to celebrate their history is welcomed. If you are not, well don't try to change the views of those that are. It's only independence day you celebrate?
I know people like you, proudly black my ass. They call you to do a "cultural dance" and you say your waist hurts. When they call you for "hip-hop~" dance, you start shaking it. You come out and tell Donzman you're black and proud.
I would think that someone who seem to think they "know alot about alot of things", should know better than to judge people they don't know. I would dance cultural dance any day and any time, whether or not i am ASKED to. So this right here is just basic arrant nonsense.

I honestly thought you would know better. I would somewhat agree with you if you said that Majority of the things they teach about are "Black American History", but saying that the teachings or the celebration of black history is "restricted" to Black American history, just tells me what a nut-case you are. Durring this black history month, i have heard about Nelson Mandela, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, Desmond tutu and so many other AFRICANS, that Aren't African Americans. You want to tell me that Nelson mandela's story and the history of South Africa has anything to do with African American History?? Come on now?? Is someone losing their "i know everything" mojo?? I Never at any point in time said that African Americans (black Americans) speak for Blacks all over the world. Don't put words in my mouth to justify your irrelevant claims. BullI slept with Angelina Jolie last night too!!!
And this is the reply of a man who can't stand the truth and decides to make humor out of it? Believe it or not. . . I will DANCE CULTURAL DANCE whether or not i am ASKED TO. first of all, black in this context means "african american" plus, majority of those who contribute to black history month are african americans. you don't have to say "african-american history month" to recognize that it's for african americans. just as people say "america" even though they're referring to just the united states and not canada or mexico or even the countries of south america. so yeah, it's all about context and you should know that.

you sound so ignorant. black history month is an AWARENESS MONTH also. to recognize blacks all over the world (even in Africa). that's why it's a whole month. rather than just a day. you can recognize two people in a day and there's nothing bad my school is currently doing some ribbon sale for darfur, . .ooppps, thanks for reminding me, i need to make posters before the end of the week. do you guys do anything at all for black history month? oh i see. some lady comes to your school and tells you about MLK and egypt and you believe that's what BHM is all about

It's called Black History, not BLACK present! The situation is Darfur is not history my dear. And this is still and ongoing war in western sudan. When the war is over, or something has been done, it can be called History! Ohh and please don't come here to tell me that because it started in 2003 it's can be considered as history! The whole point about something being done to help those 'suffering' is an entirely different story. STart a new thread for that. You have been saying you know alot, you know alot, making mouth about going to conferences, and you don't even know who desmond tutu is. Honey, Puhlease, take a cold shower and learn how to humble yourself. And I still say that Celebrating Black History Month Isn't restricted to African Americans ONLY. I didn't see you answer my questions about why Nelson Mandela was Talked about durring this month? You seem to have mastered the act of picking out parts of conversation that you feel you can give 'smart replies' to. @hot-angel What is happening in Darfur is indeed history. History is a record of events and as things are unfolding in Darfur, it is being recorded in history. You're not that bright I can see, I do not know who MLK is too, tell me more! I didn't see you answer my questions about why Nelson Mandela was Talked about durring this month? Easy, everyone talks about Mandela, he's more like a global icon. I'll like to see them talk about Oba Ovonramwen who diligently protected his people from British invasion in 1897. I'll like to see them for once talk about Nigerians like Azikiwe or Tafewa - Balewa who were the first president/prime minister of the most populous black nation. I'll like to see them talk about Toussaint Louverture who led the Haitian revolution, I'll like to see them talk about Alhaji Ado Bayero the Emir of Kano. I'm not saying this is right about you, but i think that you are one of the people who don't like to see people come together for an amazing cause. You're ignorant and I don't exactly blame you. Keep learning about black American or South African culture, forget about your own Nigerian culture/history. When time comes to take account, it will be widely regarded that Nigerians have not contributed much to the "black" discourse to be celebrated or talked about. Thanks to Nigerians who fail to discuss themselves but choose to embrace that of others. Forget about yours, nobody will remember it. I'm 100% sure you haven't heard of Oba Ovonramwen. Same thing can be said for Haitians, these were the first blacks to actually fight for freedom and obtain their independence. Now, they're not seriously talked about when it comes to black freedom fighters, why?. . .Nobody celebrated their victory. Now we like to hear of Mandela, MLKThe first of these men was Louverture but ofcourse he's not black American, he's not important. How dare anyone say some guy from Haiti led a revolution that deposed the French and earned his black nation independence?

Ohh *sniffs* *sniffs*, I smell Stupidity my people. Soo Because NELSON MANDELA is a "Global icon", he's excused from being African and Allowed to be 'restrained' into African American History. Damn, I ain't the smartest person, but the more i exchange words with you, the more i feel my I.Q score getting low. It's something i can tolerate though. This is Black history month and you can form a support group to tell more people about BLACK history. tell people about all these people you've listed. Even at that, in the whole of Africa, you can only find Mandela and Tutu to be proud of or even talk about? Point is this, Mandela, Tutu, Johnson-Sirleaf are guys the American media will always want to glorify so talking about them in BHM discussion is just natural. Since Mandela is a global icon, he's not your typical African that you can use as an example of Black History Month not being totally American Please read that out loud to yourself, and imagine your voice as someone elses voice. Can you hear how stupid it sounds? If you can't, i think it's because you are imagining your voice saying it. . Even at that, in the whole of Africa, you can only find Mandela and Tutu to be proud of or even talk about? No they aren't the ONLY Ones, but they are EXAMPLES!! Did you miss the part where i said "and many others"? Or are you going to tell me that Because I didn't list more people, The few I listed are NOT Important?? Point is this, Mandela, Tutu, Johnson-Sirleaf are guys the American media will always want to glorify so talking about them in BHM discussion is just natural. Why talk about Sirleaf but not Joseph Kabila?. . .Do you even know who Kabila is eh Mrs. Black History Month? What am i saying and what you saying?? The Point is These are BLACK people. You have been arguing with me that all they talk about durring Black history month or actually in the whole of black history is African Americans. I bring up cases like this and you are telling me that It's because the American Media will Always want to Glorify Them. Why shouldn't they be glorified? Aren't they Part of Black History?? When you say stuffs like this, it just tells me that you don't even know what you are TALKINg about. You stated matter-of-factly that BLACK HISTORY Is "restricted" to African American History. I bring up cases like this and you tell me it's just natural that these people are talked about? What in the world??? I Understand you perfectly when you say that all these people you mention aren't included in BLACK history. But reply to you is that WHY NOT instead of saying Yamyampoo - BUllCRAP, start up a group or something and tell people about these things you know? You know it, why not tell Others About it?? I wont sit here and tell you that i knew majority of these "history/people" you seem to know about, and I Appreciate you for telling me about them. You can never LEARN or KNOW too much. Although Knowing too much could be a curse on some people. *Coughs* Mrs. Black history month sounds pretty good. I like it. Problem is though, I am still learning about black history. Joseph Kabila is DRC's current president, yeah his dad Laurent Kabila was Head of State but he was assasinated. They wrestled power off the hands of fat Mobutu and his leopard skin clothing. OMG bhm is specifically mainly for african americans. for the third time, "black" is used in context in reference to "african americans" call it african american or black american history month if you wish.
and mainly for african american kids and youth to learn things that they aren't usually taught to them.
start an african history month jeez. it's not that hard. we know you're not a british citizen or canadian, you don't have to celebrate it but let those who want to celebrate it do.
black history month isn't going away most likely until scores have been settled. when being black is no longer synonymous with being a criminal, dumb, ghetto or being on welfare in the eyes of people. it was created in the first place by the first black guy to recieve a doctorate from harvard who wasn't content with how black were portrayed in the history books and the little amount of space african american history has in the US history books e.t.c
this isn't about congo or kano. sorry. Congolese people can celebrate that 'cause it's relevant to them.
and i already gave you an example. america is used in context to mean "usa" when in fact, it's two whole continents. but when some one says america, you can recognize it as "usa" likewise, when someone talks about a black person in the US, they usually mean an african american rather than a congolese president. even though they're both black.
just as in Africa, we wouldn't have a clue or care about who rosa parks is or was. even though it's the same ol', same ol' black people.
this is going to be my last post arguing with you on this thread. too bad if you don't get my point.

I Don't know who you are reffering to, but i just wanted to clear this up. Knowing about the African American Culture does not in any way mean that i would rather be American Than Nigerian. This is an intensely stupid assumption/conclusion because i wouldn't say that "knowing about chinese food, means that you would rather be chinese". Or i wouldnt make a stupid comment like "Eating Ghana food means that you would rather be Ghanian than Nigerian". Many misguided people seem to be on this thread and they think the whole of Africa must revolve around America and Black Americans. Hopefully, they wont succeed in brainwashing many more with their non-existent AFRICAN Americanism. They like to call Black American Africans. THEY ARE NOT!!! Again, I don't know about other people on this thread, but I personally didn't mention anywhere that the whole of AFRICA Must revolve around America, and Black AMericans. Donzman told me about lots of stuffs i didn't know, and i appreciate him for doing that, and i didn't say that he was "brainwashing me". So just because we talk about African Americans, and 'their culture' (if i might say so myself), now means that I am Brainwashing People. You should learn the meaning of a word before using it. This is not Brainwashing. Please!! @hot-angel Sorry if I've come across as acting as Mr. Know it all. I was just trying to show you how BHM ignores a LARGE majority of black struggles and successes all over the place. I understand your point when you say that BLack History (not just the month), ignore a LARGE majority of Black Struggles and successes. Yes I understand you. But Did you not get the part where i said that You can spread the word and tell people about the black struggles and successes that are left out? You should know (since i consider you to be a very smart person. . .) that some people Are ignorant. I am sure you have at one point or the other heard stories about how people who don't live in African ask us Africans whether we live on trees, and have lion pets. Most people are just ignorant and they need be taught. If more people like you who know about their History can spread the word, enlighten people and tell them WHAT really IS, rather than "WHAT they are made to believe IS", This whole argument wouldn't even be going on. And if you decided not to teach because you feel that Majority of Black Struggles and successes are left out, I guess Most people will Just Never KNOW. Arguments like this could push me to anger. WHy the segragation? Why can't BLACKS be BLACK? WHy can't the celebration of BLACK history Be for ALL BLACKS? WHy segragate? What happened to "WE ARE ALL ONE"? WHy do we have to say GHANIAN African, NIGerian AFRICAN? COme one, give me Answers??!! This is Celebration of BLACK history. And as a matter of Fact, I don't believe that The celebration is Limited to BLACKS ONLY!. Yes i said it. Now what?? If you are WHite, pink blue or whatever and you feel that You want to celebrate BLACK HISTORY, You are free to do so. IF The Anglos, Native Americans, Asians and the rest acknowlegde The Importance of BLACK history, WHy can't WE blacks DO SO??

So just because we talk about African Americans, and 'their culture' (if i might say so myself), now means that I am Brainwashing People. You should learn the meaning of a word before using it. This is not Brainwashing. Please!!
I dey think say you fit dey craze before. Now I know say you don chop mad cow. Who call ya name for here before you begin yab? make you go check meaning of brainwash, I stand by the statements Who ask for your education sef for Nigeria? why una no dey educate unasef for america? why una want carry am reach where Nigeria people dey?

Why can't Nigerians be Nigerians, Ghanaians be Ghanaians, Black Americans be Black Americans? What exactly is wrong with that? Otherwise, why can't the whole world just be one. What happened to wa are all one? Why can't we just celebrate human history rather than segregate? mumulicious girl
