I was going to shout "Photoshop!!!" until I saw the notice at the top and the catalogue of pictures. . . Hmm I hope his eyes don't develop some sort of disease as he gets older as lighter eyes are more sensitive to sunlight.

Blue eyes just means the eyes are ALBINO.
When you lack the gene to make colors in your eyes, they come out BLUE.

Delf747,
Black is also a color, look at the whole universe.
I don't get your point?
Have you misread my statement and now idiotically think you have to tell me what colors are?
Not having Genetic information for colors in your eyes results in Blue eyes. It's a biological process, it does not eliminate blue from being a color, it is just the process of how one obtains blue eyes.
You have missing information, you get blue eyes.
Simple really.

The kid must have "white" blood in him, maybe his grandfather or so. Its not so unique. There was a black woman in London who gave birth to a half caste (mixed race) kid. the husband was not pleased to say the least. Text later proved he had "white" blood in his genes. If your wife in Africa give birth to a blond blue eyed child, then you should worry, check to see if the Fulani man next door is spending too much time at your house.

I prefer a baby with typical black eyes. That kid looks more scary than adorable. And why is he suddenly "adorable"? Because he has blue eyes? Are we still suffering from inferiority complex that everything related to caucasians is now "adorable"?

Dont forget that the baby is a creature of God, so in essence, you have no right to call him 'scary'. Who are we to question the hidden wonders of nature? A black baby comes into the world, most likely from black parentage, with blue eyes, which defies the norms of DNA. Instead of applauding the wonders of nature, some folks are criticizing those who think the baby is adorable as suffering from inferiority complex. Na wao!!!

Lewa, Blue is the color of the indole monomer that when polymerised forms melanin[citation needed]. If both alleles for brown eyes (a polymerase gene) are absent or damaged, the blue color remains. Hence blue eye color is a recessive trait. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brown_eyes#Blue

Lewa, A common myth is that by definition people with albinism have red eyes. In fact there are different types of albinism, and the amount of pigment in the eyes varies. Although some individuals with albinism have reddish or violet eyes, most have blue eyes. Some have hazel or brown eyes. http://www.albinism.org/publications/what_is_albinism.html

Drusilla, you have a PhD in the bastardization of science!! . . . You're only second to the Professor Emeritus called "nigeria1" with the way you treat science like your tissue paper.

Dru thanks! My beef is that because of the baby's eyes you can't definately say it's as a result of albinism!Certain tests, particularly visual tests,ie for nystagmus, strabismus etc must be carried out. and also on the parents. I think it's rather rash and premature to conclude right away that its albinism!Nice link!Appreciate the info!

One would think that after what that polio vaccine did in Africa, you would know who was really bastardizing science.

I am not sure why you would think the doctor would need to test for rapidly moving eyes or cross eyedness to determine Albinoism in the child's eyes.
But, whateva.
Your welcome.

blue is a color just that the blue eye gene is recessive and won't show in your phenotype unless both you parents give it to you. either that or the child has ocular albinism like you said.

The Adorable little defect. Those with lighter iris color have been found to have a higher prevalence of age-related macular degeneration (ARMD) than those with darker iris color;[29] lighter eye color is also associated with an increased risk of ARMD progression.[50] An increased risk of uveal melanoma has been found in those with blue or grey iris color.[51] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brown_eyes#Blue
