Come to think of it, the guy has not lost a set in as many matches on clay this season. Canas will have to play unbelievably well to break that record.

Canas is a banana skin. Beat Federer twice in less than a month. But i see Nadal coming through this one 7-6 6-4.

Nadal's unbeaten run continues. Rafael Nadal won his third straight Barcelona Open championship Sunday, defeating Guillermo Canas of Argentina 6-3, 6-4 for his 72nd consecutive victory on clay. Nadal hasn't dropped a set on clay since top-ranked Roger Federer won the first set of their French Open final last year. Four players -- Nadal, Mats Wilander, Roy Emerson and Manuel Orantes -- have won three times at Barcelona. Nadal tied Wilander's 23-year-old record of three straight championships. Nadal improved to 3-0 against Canas, who reached his second straight final after losing to Novak Djokovic at the Sony Ericsson Open this month.

Unseeded Frenchman Sebastien Grosjean crushed the hopes of home fans by beating top seeded German Haas 6-4 6-4 in their opener.
To further the woes of Munich organisers, Argentine giant-killer Guillermo Canas was forced to withdraw from his first-round match with France's Nicolas Devilder because of abdominal muscle problems.
Add the first-round defeat of sixth seeded Czech Radek Stepanek to home favourite Alexander Waske 7-6 (7-3) 6-3, and only five of eight seeded players remain in the German claycourt tournament.
Defending champion Oliver Rochus of Belgium was beaten late on Monday by eighth seed Juergen Melzer of Austria 6-2 6-4.

ATP Estoril Final Serbian teenager Novak Djokovic beat France's Richard Gasquet 7-6 0-6 6-1 in the youngest ever Estoril Open final on Sunday. Third-seeded Djokovic saved three set points to take the first set in a tie-breaker. The 19-year-old world number five lost the second set without winning a single game but swept to victory in the final set. "I hope to be back next year," said Djokovic after receiving a cheque for 74,300 euros and a trophy from the hands of Portugal's former soccer great Eusebio. "He is a great player and he deserved to win," said the 20-year-old Gasquet, who lost to Djokovic in their only previous meeting in Madrid last October.

Nadal is just finding it difficult adjusting to grass its a lot faster court to play on plus fatigue from playing in the french open. He'll bounce back and hopefully play some good tennis at wimbledon.

if nadal converted his chances last season at wimbledon i know he would have been victorious. especially if it went to 5 sets. nadal can lose to number 10000th in the world, but federer knows when to bow down. shame my safin doesn't meet him no more to show him pepper

If Federer had also converted his numerous breakchances in the FO final, the story would have also changed.
You guys should be more scared because Fed is gradually becoming comfortable on clay (his worst surface), but we can't say the same for Nadal on the other surfaces.
Safin has lost his shine; bring him on and we'll show you how it's done.

I think Nada has tried on other surfaces too judging by his performance at last years wimbledon plus he has beaten Federer on the hard court and he reached the last eight of the Australian open which was a good performance.

For the world number 2, u mean not going past the round of eight in the OZ open should be considered good? Federer should then be applauded for being twice runner-up at the French.

I believe Nadal will perform better on the hard court in years to come. His poor performances on the hard courts ( aussie and us open) was due to him not being at his best form when playing those championships.
