Does Age Affect Happiness In Marriage (Matrimonial Bliss)?
« on: December 22, 2005, 03:31 AM »

I don't know how to put the topic; but the idea is ; does ones age have anything to do with a successful marriage ? (both gender)
18 years is when u become an adult, so marrying immediately, few years after, or really later shouldn't change anything. Or what do you think ?

Some 12 years old have the mind of a 24 year old. While some 48 years old have the mind of a 10 year old. So i say marry when you are mature enough. As layi always say : Marriage is not a joke, it meant for the mature minds or summin like that. What am i trying to say.. Marry when you know you're ready. You shouldn't marry because you're now 18, 21 or watever.

For a guy, its better to get married to a lady who is quite younger than he is at least 4 years difference reason being that as the couple grows, the lady tends to age faster than the guy. If they are the same age, the guy might be tempted to look someone quite younger which might affect their relationship.

sorry to say akinzo, thats sounds very immature. So are you saying youre getting married cause of looks? You don't marry someone cause they are young and look good. You marry someones heart because they are beautiful to you from the inside and the heart doesnt age,and even if you want to put that into consideration too, if youre a cheater, youre a cheater! Dont use age as an excuse.
Personally, age is no big deal as long as you are with the love of your life.

@ alheri

We have to be candid and true here. We shouldn't shy away from the things that allow men to leave their wives for someone else.  So it is not a matter of being immature but a case of sincerity. I state again that it is advisable for a guy to get married to someone quite younger. Wink

well, thats your opinion. If you were saying that in terms of maturity, thats a different matter, cause it is said that women mature faster than men. So marrying someone younger will make them be on the same level. But your reason as per cheating is a matter of principle. If you have a good marriage and are a good man, you wont cheat just cause your wife is aging. Why should a man leave his wife for someone else? Men in the north marry girls younger than they are and we have more cases of divorce in the north than in the south here and it is not because the wife is aging. If youre a cheater, youre a cheater whether your wife is young or old you will cheat. Aging is just an excuse, as is nagging and the rest.

I may not be a man but I had a dad, I've got brothers, cousins and male friends. There are alot of men whose wives are aging but they donot cheat. My point is, aging is only an excuse for cheating not a reason as far as I know. Some men cheat even when they have young wives. Basically, if youre a cheat, youre a cheat. Your wife doesnt have anything to do with it,some people are just unfaithful by nature. Even women, so it has nothing to do with age.

There are no fixed rules in marriage. But considering the fact that a man or woman contemplating marriage must exhibit some level of financial and emotional maturity; it is important to note this and also know that these things are not generally linked to one's age.
I will also mention that due to the country's economic condition, most guys reach financial freedom at later age than those living in developed countries. Just follow your heart and when the time comes, you are bound to know.

Unless the person is mentally retarded, I doubt a 48 year old would have the maturity of a 10 year old or vice versa.  In any case, what is the maturity of a ten year old or a 48 year old.  It may be easy to define how they are different, but what is the difference between the maturity of someone 29 years of age and 32 years of age?  At some point, everyone is on the same level.
