Window Protection Error

AFTER installing win 98,during the first booting of win 98 ,MY SYSTEM is displaying

while initializing device NTKERN
windows protection error.you need to restart your computer,

i restarts but still i can't enter win 98 GUI[ Graphics User interface],it still takes me backthe window protection error even when i boot from safe mode
what else can i do please help.
