@mufkina, if you can't wait for nollywood to develop, there's no better time than now to pack your loads and come audition in hollywood. There are so many casting calls going on now so don't wait. I don't know any other way i can put it but the last time i checked, movies with storylines about africa was the biggest thing on the block right now. SOoooo, you don't have to worry about accent.

i agree that our screenwriters should be more creative. However there is a limit to how creative they can get, if they have to be realistic. Nollywood is known as an ultra low budget industry. With low budgets producers have to shoot movies, they become overtly concerned when your script involves a large cast, outlandish settings and special effects, use of multi-exterior locations, just to mention a few. Also storylines are also limited to the possibility of really shooting in strategic facilities, which in some cases, may not secure approval of the relevant authorities. So in my opinion, so many factors affect a screenwriter's creativity. For the few producers who go ahead to produce such film scripts, they make a caricature movie of the original screenplay's intention. That's why many Nollywood movies revolve around the "home" and family unit. You rarely see movies about the Nigerian Navy, oil companies and otheer multinationals, the Police Headquarters, just to mention a few.

I want to make it clear here in this thread that Nigeria Screenwriter are good and they are writing something creative. How can you see a good script in the Industry whereby the Igbo Boy marketers are after cheap Movies Script, also you see a want to be Producer who just join the Guild and finish shooting a low quality movie end up been "Producer, Director, Script Writer, e.t.c and when you ask him how is it possible for him to be able to handle all this he would say "I am Multi-Talented"
Let Nollywood Call for Scripts, Do a good Workshop and See if Nigeria Would not produced an Oscar Quality Movie and Picture.
I am not saying we don't have creative producers who can write and direct but we have alot of "Whack" Igbo Directors.(All Igbos Please am not insulting the Tribe rather am facing facts)
Lets Encourage our Screenwriter its not their fault bad script flood the Industry its because thats what most producers and marketers want.
Shalom!!!
