I have to say igbo, and not just because i'm ibo but no matter where in the world you may find yourself, even if you go to the ends of the world, you just have to say IGBO KWEZUENU and believe me there'll be atleast one tiny Voice who's ever ready to reply ANYI NÕ YA (we're here)
Go igbos
LMAO, You are bias, indeed. Igbos? Yoruba culture is most recognized and accepted worldwide out of the three. For you to make a case for Igbos shows your homerism. You even made a more pathetic reason for your case.

@ sharetroll WHATEVER! If you can't deal with challenges then stop making threads *sighs* What a waste of time BTW since you know the anwser of the post and you don't welcome and respect other people's opinion why make the thread in the first place. Or you're just looking for trouble where there's none*sighs again*

It's like a lady that started a thread on stereotypes of tribes in Nigeria and when she heard the Yoruba stereotypes she started asking why people were so mean. sharetroll says we should discuss and wants the discussion in his own terms.

from what I read, he said which tribe's culture is the most popular in the world NOT "best people" or the "largest amount of people in various locations"
last I checked only one has gone has far as Cuba and Brazil.

To look at the pathetic answers and reason from irrational, non-objective people, that their statements are driven by bias & homerism. This topic could almost be taken as a rhetorial question. SOUTHBEACHED

@ thiefofhearts The fact that everybody is different gives us a different way of thinking respectively. Now its very simple to misunderstad someone else especially when you're supposed to read another person's mind from what they've written. Now its very obvious that i and babyosisi misunderstood his post, but that does not give the irritating and annoying poster any right to assume we're idiots. We were just trying to contribute in our own little way. If we were not answering to the point then its his duty to correct us and not opening his wide mouth. This is not my first time of misunderstanding someone else's point of view and i'm sure i'm not the first person, but the other time, the poster was more than nice in explaining what he actually meant. Hence the chatting continued in peace. What does this poster expect?? that we start exchanging words?? hell no. I'm not in the mood. The post was directed to you so you understand why i and babyosisi replied the way we did

cute-ass, sharetroll is a troll, he's esxpected to act the way he does. Look up the word "troll". That's why I don't take most of his words to heart. Secondly im not surprised that wrong responses were given, when you're tribalistic, you are going to immediately claim your own, i mean seriously where did the question say anything about "which tribe is the best" for someone to reply "we are the best", that was NOT the point of the threa, I don't even see where someone can make such a confusion d but when people are so consumed with bias, that's what they see in any kind of discussion concerning tribes or what have you. ready to answer the question correctly now?

If i had understood the question then i wouldn't have answered because honestly i don't know. That subject has never crossed my mind. I thought the thread had something to do with which among igbo, hausa and yoruba was most popular worldwide as in everywhere. For the mistaken conception, I APOLOGISE

I think igbos have a more popular culture in some parts of the midwest (US) but worldwide from Nigeria, i'll have to say yorubas.
Igbos need to REP more. lol they're more likely to bear english names (when i hear someone's nigerian but has english names, i guess igbo and ~7/10 times, i'm right) and they're more likely to speak english or esp. pidgin rather than igbo language.
are there more yorubas outside of nigeria than anyother ethnic group? I'm thinking yes because of my area but i'm not sure.

The thread is kind of ambiguos. The most travelled Nigerian group is definitely Igbo. The Tribe found in other countries, definitely Yoruba, they are in Benin Republic, some Brazilians claim Yoruba ancestry, some indeed returned to Nigeria with last names like desouza, dacosta and dasilva.
I hear there are some Yoruba/Sierra Leonean ancestry folks with last names like Cole and Nylander and Coker, can a Yoruba confirm this.
I also hear there are people who claim Igbo ancestry in Guinea yet to confirm this for myself and I had heard of Haitian "Iboes" and confirmed this from a Haitian and there's a true story documented in history that a lot of the Igbo slaves sent to the Island of Haiti committed suicide rather than work as slaves.
There's a place in South Carolina called 'Ibo landing' where a lot of Igbo slaves had landed they say and if you ever travelled to Charleston South Carolina or Savannah GA you'll see that the African Americans there look so Nigerian. South Carolina was the main port of entry for the slave ships.

yeah i knew a yoruba guy with "coker" as his last name. there's a yoruba Nairaland user with one of those names as her last names too (i'm almost sure) I also know that some native lagosians have names like johnson e.t.c
I haven't heard of the "haitian iboes" but i'll ask a friend. but i heard some camerooneans and igbos share ancestry

A lot of Igbos migrated and setled in the Cameroon way back, that is true. Gabon also has a large number of Igbos who were refugees during the civil war and ended up settling there.

I read this article a while back, glad to have found it. An excerpt The Ibo group Ekwe Nche has made a commitment to find other Ibo Landing sites up and down the east coast and to reclaim and redeem the souls of our lost brothers and sisters. The Ibo people are connected to the Gullah speaking people of Haiti, the Caribbean and Florida. The Ibo people are also found among the Geeche speaking people of South Carolina, North Carolina, and Mississippi. I am from South Carolina, I am a Geeche, I am an Ibo, and I am a Jew. so they are the most "travelled group" yet somehow they are not of the most popular culture worldwide. Guess it happens when you don't leave anything for people to remember you by.

Personally I believe the Yorubas in Benin Republic did not move to be there. They are right at the border of Lagos and Benin, they just happened to be carved into the neighboring country much like all border towns have a lot of people from the other tribes in the neigbouring state. Regarding the most travelled claim, you know Igbos are mainly businessmen and just in Nigeria, they are the only people to be found in every nook and corner of Nigeria, that is a fact. Go the far corners and interiors of Nigeria,if there's no Igbo man there,it must not be habitable. Most importers in Nigeria are Igbos and it is no mystery that he is bound to travel to or reside in these far away places sometimes. If you travel regularly from here to Naija, watch out for how many Igbos are on the flight returning from business trips, you'll be amazed. Did you see the above link of Ibos in South Carolina and Haiti. Igbo origin I say,I'm quite sure they speak no Igbo. Igbos generally would travel out but always remember that home is in Igboland and would return to build a home. An Ekiti man in Lagos becomes a lagosian but an Igboman in Lagos is not a Lagosian,an Onitsha man in Enugu will always tell you he is from Onitsha and when he dies,he is taken to Onitsha, even it were his grandfather that came with his family to Enugu to start a trade.

I agree it's Yoruba Culture. They're everywhere I go - sometimes it's even too much for me to handle.
In US. though there are lots of Igbo people, the Yoruba culture is more widespread In UK. Definitely Yoruba In Brazil - they believe in Sango (a Yoruba god) In New Orleans, they know of Esu, Ogun and Sango (all 3 are different gods of Yorubaland) In Benin, Ghana, Togo, Ivory Coast - they are like wildfire. One of the most popular languages in West Africa outside English and French is Yoruba language To make it even more prominent, the Yoruba musicians like Fela and King Sunny Ade have made their songs widespread outside of the country.

Most popular culture would have to be Yoruba. This is not a bad thing, it is still Nigerian, we should celebrate no matter our culture.
