@neoteny

Whats c2?  me not heard of it

In my series 60 days I played a native port of doom. I'm sure you can find it easily, much faster than 7fps. I played it on my 3650 and later my ngage (now of blessed memory). Only prob was it only played shareware doom1 (knee deep in the dead), none of this tnt evilution/plutonia stuff.

I got pspdoom working on my psp shortly after buying it, works fine with both tnt and plutonia! can't wait to get a bigger memstick so i can get down to some serious fragging!

@TP

Meeeen u hard o. I heard of ipod linux but could never summon the liver to try it on my precious (and totally proprietary) ipod mini. I fear apple products. Try to tinker with them and its 'permadeath'

Besides, what would i use it for?!

@dakmanzero
c2 is a counterstrike engine (i think) that is used to play WADs of fps (first person shooter, not frames per second-lol) from id. but since it plays quake i guess it also runs PAK as well as WAD. i have the doom port u were talking of, both for series 60 and uiq. c2 is built on SDL and allows porting with little changes to source code, but methinks u gatta tinker at kernel level of the symbian to get that UI but what do i know, right? anyway sha it plays at 7fps and u could swear its running at 14fps. don't know what the trickery is because my phone's benchmark is:
3d game  7.94 fps
3d fillrate  1.47 mtextels/s
3d polycount  23.37 ktriangles/sec

its a sendo x, doom on my p910 freezes.

this is not game related.
have u heard of Raccoon for series 60 OS7? it mimics Apache servers once u install it alongside python for series 60, and voila, your beloved nokia is a server that can be surfed with internet browsers. NEARLY WRECKED MY 6630 so beware folks incase u stumble upon it!!!

he may not wait *that* long.

I expect ps2 emulation to prolly pick up speed next year. Afterall full speed dreamcast emulation is possible so the ps2 can't be far off. Its the pcsx2 people who are purposefully moving slowly, kind of like what the icarus and chankast people did as per the DC. when ps3 takes over they will attack it with a vengeance.

Or the ps2 may just be a ridiculously complex lump of tangled spaghetti and they can't be bothered to optimize. No ps2 emulation till "core 5 menage a trois", then.

Web server on series 60 phone? How do we connect to it? bluetooth PAN? wap? i imagine gsm providers charges are too high for the web server to be kept up long, ne? and my ngage didnt support PAN connections,  well, what do I know.

counterstrike engine that plays id games? I guess its a linux thing since it is on linux. Anyway on a related note I finally got counterstrike condition zero to install on my pc. Whoa! counterstrike is the SHIZNITS! doesnt require as much skill as quake, but it is cool!

ps2 emulation is not gettin as much interest as the ps1 emu did maybe because its murder to download isos and heck everyone got a ps2 and most of the games are on pc. its actually harder to code for the ps2 thaqn it is for the 3 and a lot of devs were whooping and carrying on when they got their devkits because p2 nearly did them in. lol, "tangled spaghetti". i like that. may i use it somewhere? or do i pay royalty?

as for raccoon  u browse via http gateway not BT PAN. but its a proto so i guess its someones incomplete project.

as for the doom WAD C2 stuff i guess since its based on Simple Dynamicmedia Library it must be associated with linux because SDL was first implemented in linux systems under GNU openGL. great for emulators.

it was even more murder to download 630meg iso's back in the ps1emu days, remember?

everyone has the dvds. just like they had ps1 cd's. The lack of interest just prolly shows a general lack of interest in the console itself, (as an emulation platform, not generally).

Another possible explanation is that cpu power has not grown at the pace it was growing in the late 90's, so pcs powerful enough to make it workable are not widespread. It may also be that sony got smart and used fewer documented parts to build the console, like nintendo did with gba, making it almost impossible to emulate at high speed despite being so old/slow.

i didnt say it, phil harrison among others did. will look for all the links and paste em right here. says the ps2 was harder to code for mostly because devs insist on bypassing sony's default code libraries and instead insisted on "writing straight to the metal", and that technique was a bit hard to program with even though the devs were seeking for ways to ensure richer content.

on a different note, see mark rein's comments. www.joystiq.com/2006/07/26/rein-reckons-ps3-in-a-better-place-for-launch-than-360/

permit me a short rant.

you know what? im done speculating and arguin. why? because probability is i may not be able to afford any of those blerry games, and even if i may, dang it, i don't have the time to sucker up at 'em like in the good old days. surprisimgly i find i have little patience with the inherent frustratiions of video games. where once i'D stick at a level/boss/puzzle/task without minding my tummy rumbles until im through, now i just hiss, cuss, smack the pads/keyboard/handheld/phone on the floor and storm out into the world to cozy up to a select bevy of fine chicks named aisha or maryam or beulah or WTF.  $600 dollars for a console? i'll rather sit my blue arse on the money and watch mtv or the latest asian porn flick parading sultry eyed school girls. shits, this console war is the lamest in history, we gamers have grown up while the supposedly adult developers are slinging mud like a peck of playschool brats ."nintendo says this and that" then "sony says there and then " and "MS says where and why" and we are left saying "what, who?". man this is tiresome.
its some serious fuctup pile of arse goo because im done selling my soul to the capitalist satans. i mean i bought ps2 for 120 thou naira in 2002 and that was a load of cheeseback then. i sure as fug aint shelling close to a bajillion naira for technoludgey i don't even need. bluray, hd, xboxlivegold,motionsensor thingumajig, yada yada yada.

ok, im done. drug's dissipated.

lol!

Based on this rant and what I said earlier about Nintendo's new focus, a wii may be just what you need!

You just described a perfect wii owner!

Just think! Aisha, Maryam and Beulah may *actually* be interested in playing your new console with you this time! Fancy that! (Not that you'D rather be playing *those* , ah, games with them, I mean,  but it sure beats shoeshopping)

hmm<stroking chin> u my friend may have somthin there. imagine playing a revamped san adreas at the coffee scene with the wii pad. aisha, maryam beulah and any other hypothetical chick swinging around with that contraption. stroking, dipping, hell i could even go twat spelunking by tilting down axis. if u know what i mean (wink wink).

that meddling seun banned my arse yesterday for calling u EL-OH-ES-EE-AR. Grin

that website is pretty much popular if you are into downloading emulators and roms online, plus you don't expect to run a ps2 emulator with only the bios file available for ps2 on that site because the site doesn't host the complete set of ps2 Bios files needed to run ps2 games on a ps2 emulator. The best way to get all the Bios files is through bittorrent. Grin

WTF?!
YOU are an extremely stupid entity. When the vapour between your ears finally condenses to a primitive brain, you can figure out the difference in power between a ps2 and a Game Boy Advance.

Many other devs bring other high level emulators to the scene, such as N64 emus, ps2 emus and emus on the psp. yet a*holes like you who do nothing but whine mouth trash like this.
say, since you think it's that easy why don't you get hold of some 'emulator making softwares' and make us a ps2 emulator that runs on the Game Boy Color?

Only one of us here sounds like an illiterate. and apparently only one of us here can actually spell the word 'illiterate' correctly. rack your primitive brain to deduce the answer.
The fact that you have an almost perfect GBA emulator doesn't mean anything. Only one developer woorked on visual boy advance, whereas the pcsx2 team has upwards of 3 members. and they've been working at this project for years. Stop blaming anyone for your crappy pc because ps2 emulation demands great processing power and the current version is much more than just 'decent' if you have a powerful pc.

You've never paid a dime for any emulator you've used in the past, so quit whining and support the scene.

it's easy to blame it on typing fast, but most of us who know that the 'i' key and 'e' key are far apart on the keyboard know this to be a lie.
All current ps2 emus play games straight from the dvd-rom drive or from game images. Any ape can use Alcohol 120% to rip the game image (or rom, if you will) in a matter of minutes. if you aren't aware of this, it means you kno next-to-nothing about ps2 emulation. stop lying.

It's easy to see why you're such a big fan of VBA. Since it requires no configuration or plugins your feeble brain can easily grasp its concept. get off your arse and research the ps2 emus available now.

I do not engage in verbal sparring with people who are so clearly intellectually challenged. So i politely decline your invitation to a feud. You're simply not worth the effort. all you are, at this point, is a time wasting diversion.
Get a life.
