Ohafia Dance: A Video I Shot
« on: March 09, 2007, 08:32 AM »

Check out this video I shot on one of my visits to my country home.  It's on youtube too. It's not too bad.

http://2twist(dot)blogspot(dot)com/2007/03/ohafia-dance.html

you can also watch soldiers beating up okada riders for the fun of it live.

@ ogechi84

Thanks. I did not actually think it was that good because of the video quality. I guess I'll improve with time.

There's a great book on the Ohafia war dance and precolonial Ohafia (and related Abam, Abiriba etc.) culture called "Dancing Histories".

You are correct. I cut that part of the video off because it wasn't stable, what you see is part of the entire video and besides real humman heads are not used anymore. You will  have to explain where you got them from  Grin Grin

yeah, they're real alright! I did my NYSC in Ohafia (OGS, Amaekpu Ohafia) and that was the first thing the LGA chairman used to scare us.
He said. "Corpers, don't be afraid! We're not like those people at Isiala Ngwa, we don't eat people. Highest, during festival they may cut off your head and dance with it!"

needless to say, we didn't find that particularly encouraging  Grin

Would love to visit again someday sha. My Jss3 students should be in SS2 now,  Grin
