i just finished service and i strongly belive that NYSC should be cancelled as it is a year of wasted effort as all you get is nothing. why dont they make us enlist in the military and give us the option of resigning after six months

NYSC is definitely not a waste of time. it all depends on you. If you participate  in the scheme to flirt and not to think, then you end up a loser. I am presently enjoying my service year.

well to me nysc is not a waste depending on well you served your country while in service i can tell you that i miss my students as most of them still call me today to tell me thank that simply means that i havce not wasted a whole year.
If you think it a waste dont collect that allowance and apart from that it is a life time experience for us all it is a time that we as graduate we are suppose to look inwards as to what we want to become .
I served in oyo state and i can tell you that they are the most hospitable state in the whole of this federation as they respect corp members. majority of my batch areb still there some are self employed and i presently sell and customise  gift items  for birthdays ,wedding soveniers etc .it is not a waste those of you who are complaining now i believe where you were posted to, your emp, loyer did not give you much work and majority of you are ghost corpers we no una well well.
the schoolm where i taught we are like fulltime teachers and till today i still have some parents who call me to say thank you.
i want to thank general bomai for giving me the opportunity to teach th generation after mine what i ve been taugt in school and believe  me i myself i think i amnowm a better student in my own field of study.

whosoever says NYSC is not a waste of one Full Year Must be insane, because i do not see any reason why young graduates after struggling your way out of school in the name of service to fatherland( i mean fatherland that those not i have anything to offer you after one year in terms of job opportunity or warefare packages) people are sent to strange lands to go and die for nothing sake. for me i am still serving, i would i have gotten a better job immediately after my school but because i have to serve i lost the job. Now tell me why is the Government Still wasting money in the scheme that has not yield any result. Let me tell you it is the poor ones like us they are suffering. Their children donot take part in this Scheme and if they do, They are given the best treatment and posting after camp. so corpers stop deceiving your self that NYSC is not a waste of one full year i don't want to hear that word. We are deceive by the word Service to the nation, the nation does not have anything for you after the service year. Well i pity those that enjoy their service year and now they are at home Jobless. For me i still want Nigerian student to have a rethink about NYSC for it is of no use to the Nation. it is only a means to increase the level of Joblessness in nigeria. A word is enough for the Wise oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooo

This nysc to me is a bull shit and a waste of time. Many after spending about 5-6 years for a 4yr course to release u for the nysc programme is another aluta by some schools and while u re waiting for the call up letter for like 1 to 2 yrs, u will have many job opportunities coming your way.

Anyway, this was my xperiece and i also knew of many people/graduate that are passing thesame stress just on the name of nysc time and potentials and opportunities had being wasted, so this nysc of a ting has no basis and should be scrap or reform to equip gradute for a better future.

To every one waiting for Sept batch i acn boldly say with every assuarance that it is not certain am saying thru the ifnfo from a reliable source cos they are still working it otu may be in the next 2 years. so have your mind on the sept batch.

For every one of us that had being delayed for sometimes due to this NYSC (Now Your Suffering Continue) i pray that this Sept will be our own time in jesus name, aaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmeeeeeeeeennnnnnnnnnnnn. Cool

6 months is too much, they should limit it to the 3 wks orientation. The best bet would be to just scrap it. I'm still thinking of how i'd live 1 yr as a teacher in one  silly village.

NYSC is a bloody waste of time and discouragement to those of us in the diaspora that want to return home. Am very lucky that my employers were kind enough to let me take time out to do the bloody thing. It should be optional for those whose career prospects may be uncertain, and I dont mean this is a bad way. But for those of us who are recruited from outside the country to work in Nigeria its a real pain in the arse. Worst still to be rudely addressed by people who would be mistaken for househelps and security guards outside the camp/secretariat.

Imagine what one of the foolish officials said to me, he called me 'orobo', that i will soon explode out of my uniform, and reigned other abuses on me. I laughed it off but Gods knows if we were outside that camp he would have found himself in a gutter.

Anyways thank God I dint stay on camp, I paid someone to sort me out. Its a bloody hell hole. Imagine one of the officials asking some girls to raise up their blouses in front of other people so that she could use her hand to feel whether they were pregnant. wat bullshit. God help Nigeria.

The issue of NYSC is what we should just be deliberate on like this, The aim and objective of Federal Government is to bring the Nigeria youth together in other to promote Unity among the fresh graduate.

But this programme is a wast of time to me but I will not support the motion that says that the progamme should be scrap, I will rather advise the Federal government to improve on the welfare of this fresh graduate and there take home pay, during my own time, I collecting N7,500.00 in the city of Benin that is very expensive, b4 2 wks the money has finished, but a friend day serve at Taraba came home with more than N100k, She said she did not spend a penny out of her alawi so u can see, like wise a friend got marred last year Dec. with a lady he met during the NYSC they are about in US now with the held of the lady if not because of NYSC who knows.

I am presently meant to be serving and i think the program isn't an entire waste of time but like most other things in naija it's gone totally off track. IT needs to be completely restructured like "mystique" said they might need to shorten it and perhaps offer some flexibility like military service, teaching, corporate work etc. Basically i know a whole lot of people that managed to scale out of where they're meant to be and others that arranged their own posting so enuf of government n NYSC deceiving themselv cos they need to totally overhaul the entire program

I agree totally with you
After camp last September, one of my friends was posted straight to CBN,I mean he alone got a posting there
while many others saw themselves in one drycleaning office or even local Nursery school
In my opinion,I would say they should stop it at that 3weeks orientation, period!
One year is just too much to waste

i really think the whole NYSC progam is a waste of time, if at all it should exist it should be a voluntary exercise and not a pre requisite to you seeking a job in the available nice companies in nigeria, i'm serving at umuahia and you cant believe the frustration i am goin thru, aww

NYSC need to be scraped or the Federal Government should hurry up and mordernise the system. Else our graduates will be using as a house help. Imagine a corper being posted  to be used as a nani.

people say its a waste of time. but how many graduates actually have value on their time, I mean employed. I think in a lot of ways it has not failed but it can be improved, I think the orientation should have more important activities rather than the parade. I think it should include training the will bring out the ingenuity in our graduates and not roasting under the sun in the name of parade.

Grin am a corper o. and i have mixed reactions. there's nothing like NYSC. and there's nothing as sickening as NYSC. am in delta state and this election period, corpers all over the federation are not Safe. Just some days back, burglars raided our ouse and threatened to torch our comp. Am really tired. On the other hand, it brings you face-to-face with ibos, fulanis, hausas frm all over. It harmonises. IS THERE ANYTHING LIKE NYSC REFORM? Thats what we need!

« #28 on: May 08, 2007, 09:06 PM »

NYSC presently is a ghost of what it was when it was established. The trouble and risk for the corp members is no worth the experience and patriotism.

The bicycle fee of about N800 which could buy a good bike then is still what they pay now, Imagine!!!

NYSC unfortunately and fortunately, serves as a big time employers to the high number of Nigerians, including the fraudulent ons (I'm still trying to conclude who is worse,  corrupt Lecturers of these days or dirty NYSC staff).

Lets face facts, except u are not aware of the condition some corp members served (in very remote areas or conjested, expensive, high-crime cities), the employers of these poor young men and women either do not have the adequate Logistics and finance to support the scheme or they are swallowing it (with different schemes from all angles and cadres of the management)

For now, they are not saying anything abt scrapping. Personnaly, I must admitt, I would not call my own one year a waste cos I knew I had no choice so I made the best of the time and every oppotunity that came by. But thats just my own story. Some pple were posted to unbarable locallities.

Conclusion: The FG should set up a commitee to review the scheme,  Then scrap it!!! (if it cannot be revived)

To me, NYSC is Not a waste but a time to know more about your country. I Mean present realities of Politics, coruption, etnicity and whole lot things that charactrises this country today.

These are the things u must learn to survive in Nigeria today. The Migre allowance is just an example. NYSC really needs reform though but i say that NYSC of today reflect the society we are today.

At first I thought it was a total waste of time but then things worked out fine for me. I had fun at camp, i have gotten an OK job now and they are going to retain after the service year, somehow i think i grew up and got to know more about life.

Basically i think i should be an optional thing

nysc is not and can never be a waste of time,it works in two ways,if u find urself in a state with low investments(we term it wrong states)u could easily discover their source of income and bring their goods to commercial cities like lagos, abuja and p.hand m,ake money,or work sometin out and do your masters.d june batch thing is not really factual becos some corpers have not gotten places where they would serve.
my general advise is that you make sure that u serve in d rite state.but if not then do otherwise.u can never be 2 serious for money.byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
