I used to think that the weather in the west is good on our black skin. An AA friend was shopping for Ambi, i told her girl that has Hydroquinone the bleaching agent in it, she said yeah but she uses it. My nigerian friend bleach big time here too. I wonder why.

oh well, Ambi, it's like using Tura. it smells the same. Guess some of the light skin ones in the west uses bleaching agent then.
yes, we need to appreciate the color of our skin. But if you decide to bleach, just take it easy.

Nothing irritates me like a bleached up girl, and then a bleached up guy is just the saddest person on earth. I'm ebony shiny black, tall and handsome with an athletic build and i'm so proud of my look.Everyone comments positively. Even if i had negative comments and wont feel so inferior as to bleach my skin. YOU CAN BLEACH YOUR SKIN BUT YOU CANNOT BLEACH YOUR MIND.

Ladies, it's not the fairness of the skin but the smoothness of the complexion that counts. I'm a medium complexion guy but there is nothing as beautiful as a blemish-free, smooth shiny complexion, especially when it is dark and lovely. Will Smith, in one episode of "Fresh Prince" made a wisecrack about someone being "as black as Wesley Snipes" - what stupidity! Glory in your blackness - Bud Powell, a light-skinned African-American jazz pianist once remarked to his fellow musician, the dark Miles Davis, "I wish I were as black as you".

Say it loud, you know the rest.

ORIGINAL TOPIC

it may be actually nice to tal about the topic

Quote
Bleach Cream Or Not?

Would you use bleaching cream to better your appearence?

Some of them contain harsh ingrediants but others do work.

Its been said (I didn't say this) that "Lighter is seen to be more attractive".

Would you use it to better your appearence?

@topic
would i? NO

it's a perception perpetuated by the media and we came discuss as far back as slavery and pre slavery. Even in the Victorian times, English people looked down on other English men and women with deep tans , they were considered as low class. The reason being they spent more time outdoors doing odd jobs and tanned, so those days the paleness of your skin determined the type of status you held in society.YES SAD. Many middle and High class women used to carry brollies for shade and bathe in milk lol and other herbs and fruit extracts to make their skin PALE(bleach, oh yes they did)

As for us, black people we have fallen victims and prey to western perception of the ideal body image /beauty, because some bros and sis  have no self love and esteem. I know some people use it to get on in life, they feel oh let me bleach to look a certain way and maybe i can get that job, that client, etc(models, singers ,actors especially bow to this media pressure)

the chemicals are hurting our skins, wish people would wake up , its not worth it,  think about it, for a cream to stripe your skin its most important element (melanin) or inhibit it's natural process should be enough to scare any one. God knows the kind of havoc it plays with the inside.

WOULD I USE IT TO BETTER MY APPEARANCE?
first it does not better anybody's appearance, it's a media hype and nonsense, as soon as males and females begin to re-educate their minds about being black and love themselves, this ill will continue.
Your appearance can only be bettered by taking care of what Nature gave you. What you have inside you  is always projected on the outside, so for those bleaching, you are saying  or screaming '' i can't seem to stay comfortable in this skin'' / ''i do not have a mind of my own''/ ''i am easily influenced''/ ''i am superficial enough to neglect my mind, my soul so heck i'll just bleach''

Lets all try to start loving our skin, flip the bird at the media and all their jargons, and think would it really make people accept me? HUMANS ARE SO FICKLE, one day you loved the next the worst thing ever, why do things to please others?

you are WRONG, come for a visit at Tura International Zonal HQ in Onitsha and you will see numerous cases of transformed skins due to use of our products. This is not a case of 'whiteman' mentality - our product works!

I am sick and tired of all these enemies of progress coming here to bad mouth our products even when they have not used it. Others may be media hype, but ours produce lasting results - complexion enhancement/maintenance, texture improvement/resoration, age defying solutions, amongst others.

please do not run us down out of your ignorance. Tura is an excellent product, my wife uses it too and I love her more and more everyday.

sisimose

you are spot on.

Its not only black people that bleach.

people the world over are obsessed with lightening their skin.

its nothing more than conformance with the common ideal of beauty

like dyeing your hair or reddening your lips.

all forms of makeup can appear to be silly when looked at in a certain way.

personally I think lightening your skin to look like a white person or because you are ashamed of being black is sad: but there are people who benefit from skin lightening treatment- as far as common standards of beauty are concerned.

Sisimose, thank you.

Debosky - as long as you're promoting the skin toning and NOT skin-bleaching qualities of Tura, then I have no beef with you. But please, don't say that you're loving your wife more each day just because her skin is improving.

Since you seem to be an Arsenal fan, you might tout your products to them. They're all Africans, after all.

I think they wear yellow as their "away" strip. Grin

Our products work - this term 'bleaching cream' is highly inappropriate to describe Tura's line of products

we deal in skin enhancement, and that means different things to different people - some want to be lighter, some want to tone, some albinos want to even tan  Cheesy, we cater to all these segments and all, and our overall aim is to enhance the wonderful work of the creator, or repair any damage that may have been caused by accident/poor care of the skin.

It is the perogative of each individual to choose whether they want to be lighter, darker, more even toned, etc.

Tura International - helping you to love your skin and treat it well.

This is a great topic. It is good that we as black people are talking about it. Akara, great article. I copied it. It saddens me to know that black people are bleaching their skin, telling the Creator that they are ashamed of their gift of melanin. Bleaching creams were commonly used by African-Americans in the 20's-probably mid 1960's. After the Black Is Beautiful movement came about, the use of these products decreased. Granted there may still be AA's still using them today, but it is not that common. People who bleach their skin do not realize they are putting themselves at risk for skin cancer. Also, it is truly a sign of a person who have some serious self-esteem problems. I truly love my bronze skin tone. Cocoa butter and shea butter are excellent for getting rid of dark spots. A diet that includes lots of fresh vegetables and fruits can also help. I seen nothing wrong with wanting to have clear, blemish-free skin. Skin bleaching is another story.

As other posters said, bleaching one's skin does nothing for one's beauty. I've seen some women with bleached skin who look like someone from a horror movie. Color caste systems are found around the world, including here in America. The lighter a person is, often the more white skin privileges he/she gets. Here in America the television, advertisements, etc. are full of what you refer to as half caste persons. Even with all of that, I am not ashamed of being black. I do not wish to look or be white in any way.

Little Kim may have bleached her skin, had her black features chisled down, and had a super straight weave sewn in, but she did not change her genetics. Her new look also did not keep her out of prison. Light skin does not make one look better. Well, it may for those who believe in white supremacy, but it does not for me. You have some blacks on this planet who will do anything to try to escape their blackness. Self-hatred must be a horrible feeling.
