Doctors And Hospitals In Nigeria

If you know the state of Nigerian Hospitals you will prefer to take "agbo" for a disease than go to one of those things we call hospitals. Doctors are no better - lazy, unmotivated, egotistic-over-nothing and even quack.

I just would like to hear your own opinions and have you share your experiences at any Nigerian hospital.

I hear they've chosen 7 hospitals to be reformed, anyone as a list of the 7 hospitals or just tell me, is LUTH included?

What is the service supposed to be like in a modernised hospital?

Sure there are always good ones, but its the ratio we need to worry about - perhaps 1-1,000,000
What about the hospital itself - tell me its standard and I'll call you a liar

 

I agree that Nigerian hospitals are not standard but it is not the fault of the doctors.
The govt has the responsibility to equip the hospitals and they r not doing that so what do u want the doctors to do?
Equip the hosp with their money?

i believe nigerian doctors are giving their best bearing the circumstances.sure some are very bad but majority have their moral duty at the back of their mind.

u should see how under-equipped nigerian hospitals are.yet doctors work in those conditions and bring out something.most european doctors cannot work in the conditions nigerian doctors do.

Nigerian doctors work under the most demanding conditions-no facilities,no drugs,no water,no light,no better salary,a demanding society,family and friends expecting a certain standard of living,and people always for asking for their financial assistance and free treatment! Who won't be de-motivated!!
Turning  away accident victims,is not the doctor's decision,but hospital policy.WHY?! Because of inadequate facility if a serious injury,but most importantly,because of police involvement/harassment. Same reason people with bullet wounds are rejected.
There may be a few out there who are unscrupulous. BUT most harm are done by quacks,but qualified medical doctors bear the brunt and get the blame. ?Not everyone who works in the hospital is a doctor,not everyone with a ward coat is a doctor!

ive heard all kinds of horror stories about hospitals in naija. its scary. especially from women having babies. some of those stories are so shocking. you get no attention, no privacy, no compasion, no nothing. they seem to be immune to what you are going through. even if salaries are not paid its no reason to take out frustration on innocent victims patients.

my friends had their babies in naija. they told me how they were beaten and hit and yelled at to push. i could not believe it because when a woman is in labor she is vulnerable and almost at the point of death and should be treated with great compassion. its advisable for a loved one to always be with you during that time so you can keep an eye on what they are doing.

i had my baby here and i couldn't have asked for anything better. the nurses and doctors were sympathetic, compassionate and kind. no one beat me up during labour.

this isnt to say that we don't have good doctors and nurses. but these complaints arent one- off things , they are becoming too rampant and common. its almost like a norm.

some few years ago, my mom's friend was admitted into the hospital for pains and other sickness. she was discharged after few days. 2weeks later, same pain started again. she was rushed to the hospital and discharged few days later.

so the third time she was admitted, i went with my mom to visit her. she told us she will be discharged the following day. when we went to see her in her home, she was in very serious and terrible pains.  she kept telling my mom, i have this bad and horrible pain in my abdomen, when i piss i feel so hurt, i was listening to their conversation. on our way home, i told my mom i think she has gonorhea. and penecilin is what i read will help. my mom was like where did you know that from small pikin? my mom always love to listen to my health stories which i read in mags. i told her i read it from the various Healthcare Magazine daddy always buy (anyone remember that magazine? i think it's like monthly magazine.

so my mom out of pity for her friend went back. and was telling her friend maybe she had gono. she was like what is that? her husband heard and then rush to the chemist to buy the penecillin. he knew how to give injection so he gave his wife Peni injection. when we saw her the following week, she was all smiles and healthy, !!! i will always remember that for the rest of my life, as young as i was then!

i hate the doctors there, some are so randy. Once I went for rabbies injection after i thought i was bitten by a dog. the doctor gave me a list of what to buy but added that it was a scratch and i will be fine without injection. but if i want to play safe, that was fine. then he started toasting me, i just listened to his rabbling how beautiful, how good looking and many other blah blah. I looked around his office and saw a wifey picture of their wedding. i was like what! he continued and wanted to take me out to lunch. I said okay when next i come for the injection. As i was leaving he started fondling and tapping my backside. I was pissed and scared. i told him i will be here soon for the injection. he then let me go with a big grin and all smiles (for the big meat coming the next time i guess). With that, I rushed out. I never went back !!!

well, with a doctor who is making toasting and talking about dog bite, you wouldn't want to leave. so i had to just listen to him. don't forget i had dog wound on me and wouldn't just run out. its not his clinic. it's a military hopital (just a little correction) 

when i was a student in nigeria, we used to have this maxim about girls that ". . .audience is consideration". meaning that once a girl starts to listen to a toaster it means she is considering him seriously. b/c a girl that is not interested will not even give an ear to a toaster.

If i am strong(not sick and dying) and a doctor fondled ny back side i will give him 2 clean slaps one to each cheek unless i don't have another altanative to healthcare if not,e no go funny you were scared for what?I beg no let am escape next time o let him know that not all women smile when their buts get fondled by strangers.

i once went to a dentist in nigeria and he tried to molest me right there on the dentist chair. i was younger. it was so shocking because my dad brought me on the first visit so he didnt try any stunt. the next time i went back alone to complete the dental work. he locked the door and started groping me. he was horny as hell and breathing like an elephant on heat. i was young but i can swear i saw a hard on. i was so scared. i protested and started crying. he let me go. didnt tell anyone.
the moral of the story is that whenever any member of your family is in the hospital (especially an underaged girl) there must be someone with her not only does their service suck, they are known to harrass patients sexually! 

By not telling anyone, you left him free to molest other young girls.  Shame. 

You can still tell your father about what that particular doctor did: they might still be friends.
Think about it - the doctor is still out there busy molesting very young girls and nobody knows about it.

when a girl is young she dosent know how to tellsuch stories to adults so i don't blame her because i was once in such a position.I think parents should encourage children to tell them when anyadult touches them in anyway that makes them scared.parents should also let children know parts of the body that are private and tell them not to allow anyone touch them and they shouldnt touch anybodys own no mater what the person says or gives to them because i know some lousy men who promise to give sweets and biscuits

Please be a little precise - Where were you told the hospital is located in Nigeria ? (city, state etc)
