Wellfor y'all that don't use your PC for anything. . . But just want a PC with a beautiful desktop. . y'all will go for Vista. I have been into XP, and into Vista! I dual boot, running Windows XP, Vista and Linux. . .
If I was to compare excluding Linux, Windows XP will surely take home all he glory! no Doubt.

I personally won't recommend buying Vista yet till Microsoft gets it right. Why?
You don't actually need it
Cost $$, it's outrageously overpriced
Upgrading hardware to support
Driver support
Some applications don't work
Honestly, there's nothing Vista can do that XP can't. So, stick with XP.

Sorry, get it right in what sense? overpriced in what sense?, XP is expensive as well. if you know your way, it wont be expensive for you. what driver support? which applications? does XP have ReadyBoost? there are many features of Vista that XP lacks.

From day one? this means you have not even test-run it! and OMG!, its not complicated, its simpler to use than XP, when XP was released at first, it was completely different to the used-to interface of the likes of Windows98 and WindowsME. If you walkthrough Vista more frequently, you'ld get used to it. As for security IMHO, its more secure than XP. Please, give an example of the useless security feature of Vista. I'm angry people are degrading Vista especially those who haven't sat down to test it or walkthrough its features. Note:XP is not the best. Vista is better, and the best is yet to come in the future.

Ok, an XP upgrade costs $99 from Microsoft while the cheapest Vista upgrade (Home Basic) is $199 that's twice the price. The most expensive Vista upgrade (Vista Ultimate) is $349 that's nearly four times the price of XP.
There's been plenty of coverage about applications that won't work without anupdate. These include anti-virus, backup and security software such as those from Symantec, Sophos and ilk; CD and DVD burning tools like the suite from Nero need updated versions to work; and even basic disk management and partitioning tools such as Paragon's Hard Disk Manager are awaiting an update for Vista to be compatible. How many more will fail as Vista enters mainstream? Heck, even Firefox has issues with Vista. XP ain't got any of these troubles that's why almost all programs are compatible with it.

The price of XP has depreciated just because there's a new OS. XP was expensive when it was newly released. I don't know of symantec, but kapersky works well, u could get that. Nero works well as I used it this morning. Try Partition Magic, don't be tied to just one software company. I'm currently using Firefox and it works fine. . There are many applications that work well with Vista, Vista has just been released, sooner or later, all applications will be Vista compatible. IMHO, XP might become outdated soon, maybe not now. Just like 98.

I used to be a Vista-Hater myself till I got my lappy with Vista Home Premium pre-installed. I agree that work on XP is much faster than on Vista, but I really think we've all just been "spoilt" with technology since the 20th century.
I don't think anybody complained about Windows 95 when it first hit the market not too many years ago, but look at us now blatantly spitting out at all the hardwork, funding, human resources, research and technology that has gone into developing Vista. I believe we're nearing the peak point of the "Law of Diminishing Returns" where greater efforts are appreciated by fewer people.
They all have their shortfalls so I think we should just concentrate on the poll results (which are considerably close at the moment (XP:36 votes vs Vista:33 votes) and see which of the two will eventually brace the hearts of computer users in our location.
Cheers
